LIST OF PLAYER RATINGS

My Overall Rating - Player (Difference from 2K's overall rating)

Please note that Overall ratings are 2K's formulas and they are not perfect.  The most prominent example is Medium and 3pt shot ratings not counting very much towards PF overall rating even though the league is shifting in this direction due to the effectiveness of stretch four types.  Carmelo Anthony will rate much higher at SF even though he has proven to be MVP caliber at PF.  Similarly, Dirk Nowitzki carried a team to a championship but his Overall rating won't differ much from lesser traditional PFs like David West or a heavily struggling Pau Gasol.  Overall rating does not directly translate to on-court effectiveness.

TEAM RATINGS

Sorted by Overall Rating (Def/Off in parenthasize).  Injured players also listed. Please note that I do not use hard-coded "Injuries" in my roster like 2K Sports and that you will be able to re-add these players to their rotations at any time by simply giving them minutes.

Coach ratings affect team overall rating, and they are not editable, so if you think a team should be higher or lower that is the reason why.  Player ratings and rotations still play a big role here, and injured players can decimate a team's rating if the replacement isn't up to snuff.

Pistons: J.R. Smith (78/SG)
Spurs: Andray Blatche (80/C), J.J. Hickson (80/C)

GLITCH: David West and Nikola Pekovic went un-signed and have disappeared from the rosters.

Top Unsigned FAs
PG: Will Bynum (75), Delonte West (73), Jeremy Pargo (72)
SG: Ray Allen (73), Tony Allen (72), Chris Douglas-Roberts (72)
SF: Corey Brewer (72), Anthony Morrow (72)
PF: David West (82?)
C: Nikola Pekovic (78?), Chris Kaman (74), Samuel Dalembert (74), Jermaine O'Neal (72)

The reason all these players go un-signed are 2K's generated draft classes are ATROCIOUS with many players rated in the 70s (which leads to teams not needing to sign players).  In order to get realistic results you NEED to download a draft class with lower overall ratings than 2K's.  I will make a draft class file eventually, but not for some time.  I also do not know which currently available files to recommend.  Test in advance!

SOURCES/CREDITS
Basketball-Reference - The most accessible source of "standard" Advanced Statistics, a staple site for any true basketball fan.  2K uses all of the stats found here in their rating and tendency formulas.  I was also once featured in the blog section of the site :)

Hoopdata - Most roster editors use this site for shooting ratings, but Basketball-Reference also has that data. What Hoopdata does give me is the ability to view and sort that data by team and per minute, which makes editing tendencies far less time consuming.

82games - This site used to be a staple of every rating change I made back in my early days of roster editing.  The site was a true pioneer in application of real basketball to statistics, and they were allegedly partnered with 2K Sports during NBA 2K10 (to combat Live's alliance with Synergy Sports.

Synergy Sports - Holy cow what would I do without this site?  Video of any play from any game over the last 4 years, incredulously comprehensive statistics, play type breakdowns that 2K Sports uses for their Freelance tendencies, play types, and every other nitpicky tendency you could possibly imagine.  As such, a subscription is mandatory for any would-be roster editor vying for the Iron Throne of Rosteros.

Draft Express - The premier basketball scouting site, period.  They are rarely wrong about draft picks, and their list of measurements from the pre-draft combine is used by 2K Sports in their athleticism ratings (Strength, Vertical, Speed, Quickness).

ShamSports - Mark Deeks is brilliant, insightful, and bloody funny.  His blog hosts the most accurate and comprehensive contract data on the net.  Please note that while his blog is currently down due to a server issue (not his fault), you can follow him on Twitter @MarkDeeksNBA

2K Sports - I mean, they do make the damn game.

GameFAQs - The story of how I became a roster editor is this: I was posting on the NBA 2K3 forums, engaged in various basketball discussions.  I start making player edits, people like them, and the suggestion comes that I made a guide listing all my rating changes so they can make them too.  I start making guides, people start using them.

My changes get so vast and detailed that people start sending me their memory cards so I can simply add my file to it.  As I was the only person doing this, my rosters/ratings were the most well-known on the net from 2003-2008, and I would like to think I inspired a number of the modern roster community, who are in much greater number than when I first started this endeavor.

With the addition of 2K Share in NBA 2K9, I no longer needed to make guides or transfer files via memory card + postal service, as they could be uploaded and downloaded from 2K's server at the click of a button.  Becoming a blogger and tweeter was a natural progression.

In every game mode, Chris Paul will end up signing in Cleveland.

MyCareer, Association, Creating-A-Legend... it doesn't matter. Every time I've played in every one of these Chris Paul signs with the Cavs, and Kyrie Irving comes off the bench. A few years into MyCareer, and CP24 (#3 was taken... should've gone with 30 so he could be C3P0) has a rating around 96 while Kyrie comes off the bench with a 90.

They never trade Kyrie or Paul either. They keep both, making absolutely no sense for the Cavs, Paul or Kyrie but eh, it's not like this is a video game that apparently prides itself on being a realistic simulation or anything.

Thanks for the roster update, I've been anxiously awaiting it, sir.

Rashidi said...

That's insane. I may need to preemptively give Paul a max extension to prevent that from happening.

someone needs to copy this for ps3 :L such a good roster, so accurate (apart from what happened with the sim :D)

I wish i could get your rosters to PC.

專家小組23 said...

Sir, do you have PC verson to release? :)

Has 2K ever contacted you? You should honestly have the Insider's job to do from home.

Wow! so why the large fall for Deron Williams?

Unknown said...

Very nic e detailed roster btw

Rashidi said...

Deron Williams is having his worst season since his rookie year (on par with his sophomore season).

17.0 PER
51.6 TS% (career worst 30.0 3pt%)
1.5 ORB%
8.5 DRB%
36.6 AST% (8th in league, but worst mark since rookie year)
1.5 STL%
0.9 BLK%
23.8 USG%

Williams has shot the ball poorly over the last two years, and his assist rate is 10% less than it was the previous four seasons. His defense has also declined sharply since joining the Nets.

Unknown said...

Was just wondering he dropped so much. Haven't payed much attention to D-Will or the Nets much besides the games they played against the Knicks.

Unknown said...

Hey man, great work! im a pc user. is there anyway i can download ur roster? thanks ;)

Unknown said...

Rashidi, I have followed your roster edits for YEARS now, first time posting on your blog though. Just wondering, are there any certain slider settings you use with this roster set when using it to play Quick Match?

Shelb said...

Amir slides over to the 4 spot now with Jonas back, as they both start together on the Raptors.

Rashidi said...

Amir is starting at PF but has spent most of his PT at C this season (he's also Valanciunas backup).

Tiago Splitter I similarly have listed at C even though he starts at PF next to Duncan. He still gets most of his PT at C.

Rashidi said...

Addressing earlier comments, I still have players w/ Acrobat, and I use default sliders.

Unknown said...

Rashidi will You update roster after trade deadline??

Rashidi said...

I update rosters throughout the year.

P. N. said...

Would it be possible for you to just go through the attributes of ratings. By this i mean when you are on the individual posistions part you can just go all the way to the right than back.

Rody said...

I finally found your blog again Rashidi, I been using your rosters since Nba 2k5, then I stopped between 2k8, then came back 2k11 and saw that you weren't on Operation Sports anymore and had no file. Now I came back on 2k13, and see you have a file on 2kshare.

All is good with the world now.

I would love to see a video with the complete ratings like P.N. suggested. As a PS3 user of NBA 2k12, my options for updating player ratings is rather limited. One nice long video would be way more convenient than using a billion sources to compile ratings like you've had to do all these years. Thanks so much for your hard work.

thanks rashidi!
I've a question for you; which sliders you uses on your roster? default sliders aren't the best for me

It's time to edit Donatas Motiejunas, he is a monster!!!

Rashidi said...

Motiejunas will be 69 Overall in my next update.

Unknown said...

Hi Mr Rashidi.. does your roster update available for PC version? can you give me a link where I can download it? thank you so much! I really like how you rate the players.

Unknown said...

If you dont have the roster for pc version... can you just give me a copy of your roster in Excel so I can just edit my roster to be like your roster.. thanks alot..

Unknown said...

How come you are ignoring all the comments about getting the roster for PS3 or PC? Lol. We need love too!

bravesfan said...

Are u gonna wait to release ur next update after the regular season? I would. Lmk

siwen said...

Your roster is great!!!!!
And I also rate 5 stars in 2K share. May I know when you will have latest rosters update?
I'm looking forward it.

When can we expect a new update!?!?!

Unknown said...

This roster makes me wish I had an X-Box, it's so amazing, the amount of detail you put in it is amazing. Guess I'm stuck with 2K's rosters. I'd be better off letting my 5-year old sister make the rosters. She could get SOME things right.

Anonymous said...

Hi, this is great work. Just echoing the sentiments of a few above, I was wondering if you knew somebody who could upload the roster to PS3. That would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

CTulisiak said...

Hi, love the site and your updates/commentary!

I was wondering if you have a spreadsheet or comprehensive summary available with individual players' attribute, ability, hotspot, tendency, etc. ratings (at least for starters and maybe major role players/sixth men) and team rotations. I have NBA 2k12 (will very likely be getting 2k14 but opted to skip 2k13 as I didn't see the need, what with the lack of Greatest Challenge and overall "lack" of new features) and I've been using your site as best I can to keep my rosters up to date.

Would you happen to have such an information spreadsheet (or whatever) available? I realize it would be a lot of work to make one from scratch, but thought I'd ask anyways.

Either way, thanks for your site! Keep up the great work!

You must hate Miami lol they've one what is it 46 out of 50 or something and yet you have Chalmers 69?? Cole 65????????? Miller 64?? Battier 68? Wade should honestly be 91-92 though

Shelb said...

Michael,

1. You don't seem to realize how the ratings work. The players you named are all specialty guys. They won't be rated higher (although I think they're all pretty properly rated) because they only focus on one or two things.

2. Wade is not a Top 10 player anymore. Watch him play.

Rashidi said...

Wade has dropped to 92 due to playoff performance. He will continue to drop if his Finals is just as bad.

Of note, his mid-range shot has taken a dive.

Unknown said...

Jumper hasn't been there for D-Wade. I agree. Though I think Miami can deal with Wade struggling. If the Heat want to win it all though, they need Bosh to get out of his slump. Otherwise, easy win for Spurs.

Come on add it to ps3

We need PC and PS3 love! Since moving to the PC I have been super sour not being able to use your rosters! I'm considering about doing all of your edits or using reditor or something and do it myself. I will give you credit for it but damn answer our questions about Ps3 and PC concerns ! Great stuff as always man keep up the good work but show us some love too!

Do you guys want me to manually do it? Or would he get pissed?

Injustice: Gods Among Us
Gone are the days when "Mortal Kombat" was the talk of the town. Enter the newest fighting game that easily captured the attention of today's players. Warner Bros. has totally found a goldmine via this game that it even managed to have a spot in the top 5, exceeding the performance of the other games that have been out for quite some time.
