NBA 2K15 Roster Analysis 11/3/14

PLAYER RATING / BADGE EDITS

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (Hornets)
78 Overall (+1)
69 Standing Mid-Range (+6)
66 Moving Mid-Range (+4)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2012-13 78 2025 14.0 .506 7.2 18.9 10.1 1.4 2.8 12.7 17.9
2013-14 62 1502 12.0 .516 8.2 16.2 5.4 1.5 2.1 12.1 15.2
2014-15 3 71 25.8 .711 6.8 32.2 10.9 0.7 4.3 7.7 16.9

MKG has shown improved touch on his shot after working all summer with Mark Price.   He's my early candidate for the NBA's Most Improved Player, as this was the fatal flaw in his game.

Jason Maxiell (Hornets)
67 Overall (NC)
77 Post Defense (+6)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2012-13 72 1789 11.3 .478 8.5 18.0 4.7 0.9 4.2 13.5 15.3
2013-14 34 488 8.1 .459 6.5 13.5 2.8 0.8 3.2 10.6 12.4
2014-15 3 37 -1.3 .429 6.5 9.7 0.0 0.0 2.0 30.0 12.5

I went at length last night on Twitter about Maxiell's post defense on Amare Stoudemire.  It seems I wasn't the only one who noticed.  Of course, he'll need more than that to justify playing ahead of Bismack Biyombo.
Gordon Hayward (Jazz)
80 Overall (+1)
73 Pass Vision (+7)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2013-14 77 2800 16.2 .520 2.5 14.0 24.1 2.1 1.1 15.0 23.1
2014-15 3 108 22.0 .602 4.2 21.4 22.5 1.4 0.0 9.1 17.9

Hayward has played well after getting his max deal, but it's not his pass rating I would have gone out of my way to adjust.

Derrick Favors (Jazz)
79 Overall (+1)
84 Shot IQ (+4)
82 Post Control (+7)
65 Offensive Consistency (+10)

Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2013-14 73 2201 19.0 .556 10.1 23.7 7.3 1.8 3.8 12.9 20.8
2014-15 3 92 36.2 .637 14.8 21.0 10.4 3.4 5.5 7.3 26.4

Favors scored 32 points in only 30 minutes of action in a 27-point blowout win over the Suns.

2K has already edited five Jazz players in-season which probably matches their total from the last ten years combined.  That's only a minor exaggeration.

Rudy Gay (Kings)
83 Overall (NC)
79 Standing Mid-Range (+3)
81 Moving Mid-Range (+4)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2013-14 73 2531 18.3 .540 5.0 14.8 15.1 1.9 1.8 14.2 27.6
2014-15 3 109 28.4 .650 4.2 19.6 15.7 1.4 1.6 10.3 27.2

As mentioned with yesterday's roster update, Gay is playing like a max guy for once, and he is still the only player to see an adjustment to their mid-range rating (Klay Thompson is the only other player to see a change to a non-3pt shot rating).

Jason Thompson (Kings)
76 Overall (+1)
74 Post Defense (+10)
55 Defensive Consistency (+10)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2012-13 82 2285 14.6 .533 8.4 19.5 6.0 1.1 2.1 10.8 18.2
2013-14 82 2007 11.1 .523 8.5 21.3 4.1 0.8 2.3 14.5 14.4
2014-15 3 81 1.5 .308 2.8 21.1 2.1 2.5 3.3 35.0 10.8

I admittedly have not gotten to watch very much basketball over the first week, but it's shocking to see the Kings are 7th in the league defensively with a 2-1 record.  I imagine Thompson has been a big part of that.  It certainly hasn't been his box score stats getting it done (a big reason why the Kings are only 25th offensively at present).

Jordan Hill (Lakers)
77 Overall (+1)
83 Shot IQ (+8)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2012-13 29 458 18.5 .533 20.3 19.7 4.7 0.9 3.0 12.5 20.2
2013-14 72 1500 19.3 .579 13.8 24.3 5.9 0.9 3.1 11.1 19.7
2014-15 4 115 22.3 .600 14.4 18.7 10.8 0.0 4.3 7.5 19.7

With the Lakers strapped for talent, he's in line for a big year.  He'll be the second highest rated Laker by seasons end (he'll probably deserve the top spot over Kobe, who is doing his best 40-year old Jordan impression, but 2K will never let that happen).

Joe Johnson (Nets)
83 Overall (+1)
93 Shot IQ (+6)
85 Offensive Consistency (+3)
85 Quickness (+2)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2013-14 ★ 79 2575 15.5 .564 2.2 10.3 15.0 1.0 0.3 9.8 22.3
2014-15 2 73 28.4 .582 5.1 17.0 22.2 0.7 0.0 4.2 29.3

If Johnson can keep it up, he'll actually DESERVE to make the All-Star team for a change.

Miles Plumlee (Suns)
77 Overall (-1)
55 Offensive Consistency (-10)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2013-14 80 1964 14.6 .529 11.3 24.4 3.3 1.3 3.5 15.4 16.2
2014-15 3 63 12.1 .588 6.9 14.4 2.5 0.8 3.6 15.0 14.5

Offensive consistency hasn't been Plumlee's problem early - it's his diminished rebound rate.

Klay Thompson (Warriors)
84 Overall (+2)
83 Driving Layup (+3)
88 On-Ball Defense (+3)
85 Offensive Consistency (+10)
80 Defensive Consistency (+5)
Season G MP PER TS% ORB% DRB% AST% STL% BLK% TOV% USG%
2013-14 81 2868 14.3 .555 1.5 7.9 10.2 1.3 1.0 9.2 22.6
2014-15 3 106 28.8 .694 0.0 7.2 16.2 2.3 1.4 11.1 29.4

This is one way of showing people you deserve your max contract.

Steve Kerr has already sold me as the coach of this team by virtue of the fact that he is not Mark Jackson, whose offensive schemes often forgot about anyone not named Stephen Curry.

PLAYER TENDENCY EDITS
Chris Bosh- Increased Touches

Bosh's ratings improved yesterday, and this will help the AI keep pace with the return of CB4.
