NBA 2K15 Roster Analysis 12/5/14 - Pacific Division

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS
16-2 (1st West, 1st NBA)
9.88 SRS (1st West, 1st NBA)

STARTERS
90/PG Stephen Curry (31)
85/SG Klay Thompson (32)
78/SF Harrison Barnes (32)
78/PF Draymond Green (31)
81/C Andrew Bogut (24)
BENCH
80/SF Andre Iguodala (26)
73/C Marreese Speights (19)
73/PG Shaun Livingston (18)
71/SG Leandro Barbosa (12)
70/SF Brandon Rush (11)
71/C Festus Ezeli (4)
67/C Ognjen Kuzmic (0)
64/SG Justin Holiday (0)
INACTIVE
82/PF David Lee (INJURED, ETA DECEMBER)

OVERRATED
80/SF Andre Iguodala (9.2 PER, 52 TS%, 13 USG%, 12 AST%)
While his defensive ability and versatility is certainly valuable, Iggy just isn't a better player than Harrison Barnes or Draymond Green right now.

UNDERRATED
90/PG Stephen Curry (28.1 PER, 64 TS%, 29 USG%, 40 AST%)
75/PF Marreese Speights (26.1 PER, 59 TS%, 32 USG%, 9 TO%)

Curry is in some historic company right now.

Point Guard PER > 25
30.0 Chris Paul (2009)
28.3 Chris Paul (2008)
28.1 Stephen Curry (2015)
27.7 Chris Paul (2015)
27.6 Oscar Robertson (1964)
27.0 Chris Paul (2012)
27.0 Magic Johnson (1987)
26.9 Magic Johnson (1989)
26.7 Oscar Robertson (1965)
26.6 Magic Johnson (1990)
26.4 Chris Paul (2013)
26.0 Oscar Robertson (1962)
25.9 Chris Paul (2014)
25.7 Magic Johnson (1981)
25.5 Oscar Robertson (1967)
25.2 Oscar Robertson (1966)
25.1 Magic Johnson (1991)
25.1 Oscar Robertson (1961)
25.0 Jerry West (1965)

There are only four other PGs to post seasons > 25 PER, and two of them were all-time greats prior to the modern era.  Only Chris Paul has put together better seasons than this, but those efforts were required to simply make his Hornets competitive (49 wins in 2009, 56 wins in 2008).  Looking at where Curry has the Warriors in the standings, this could be the greatest all-time season for a point guard.

Derrick Rose had only 23.5 PER when he was awarded MVP for leading the Bulls to the league's top record and I can't see any reason why Curry won't get it barring a sudden collapse in team/individual production.

POSITION ADJUSTMENTS
SHOOTING GUARD: Leandro Barbosa (+4)
SMALL FORWARD: Brandon Rush (+1)
POWER FORWARD: Draymond Green (NC)
CENTER: Marreese Speights (-2)

LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS
13-5 (6th West, 7th NBA)
6.59 SRS (5th West, 6th NBA)

STARTERS
90/PG Chris Paul (33)
77/SG J.J. Redick (26)
75/SF Matt Barnes (25)
89/PF Blake Griffin (32)
81/C DeAndre Jordan (30)
BENCH
80/SG Jamal Crawford (26)
75/C Spencer Hawes (18)
73/PG Jordan Farmar (16)
74/PF Glen Davis (13)
72/SF Hedo Turkoglu (12)
70/SF Reggie Bullock (9)
69/SG Jared Cunningham (0)
68/C Ekpe Udoh (0)
INACTIVE
67/SG C.J. Wilcox (0)
70/SF Chris Douglas-Roberts (INJURED, ETA DECEMBER)

OVERRATED
89/PF Blake Griffin (21.7 PER, 54 TS%, 32 USG%, 8 ORB%, 19 DRB%)

Rebound numbers have slipped every season.  Doesn't deserve 81 ORB, 82 DRB, 90 BOX.  His overall game seems to have hit a plateau.

UNDERRATED
90/PG Chris Paul (27.7 PER, 64 TS%, 21 USG%, 45 AST%)
80/SG Jamal Crawford (20.2 PER, 60 TS%, 27 USG%)

You can copy/paste that same argument for Curry to Chris Paul.  Here's how they compare to their peers.

97 - LeBron James (23.9 PER)
95 - Kevin Durant (1 GP)
94 - Anthony Davis (33.7 PER)
90 - Stephen Curry (28.1 PER)
90 - Chris Paul (27.7 PER)
90 - Carmelo Anthony (20.5 PER)
89 - DeMarcus Cousins (27.8 PER)
89 - James Harden (25.3 PER)
89 - Dirk Nowitzki (23.3 PER)
89 - Blake Griffin (21.7 PER)
89 - Tim Duncan (21.4 PER)
89 - Dwight Howard (20.2 PER)
89 - Kobe Bryant (20.0 PER)
89 - Kevin Love (18.6 PER)
88 - Russell Westbrook (4 GP)
88 - LaMarcus Aldridge (22.5 PER)
88 - Derrick Rose (17.7 PER)

There's clearly still a lot of roster editing to be done (and how did I miss Melo in my Atlantic breakdown?).

POSITION ADJUSTMENTS
SHOOTING GUARD: Jared Cunningham (+2)
SMALL FORWARD: Hedo Turkoglu (+4)

PHOENIX SUNS
11-8 (8th West, 13th NBA)
1.48 SRS (10th West, 13th NBA)

STARTERS
82/PG Eric Bledsoe (32)
84/SG Goran Dragic (30)
76/SF Marcus Morris (21)
78/PF Markieff Morris (30)
75/C Miles Plumlee (20)
BENCH
76/SF P.J. Tucker (25)
78/SF Gerald Green (23)
83/PG Isaiah Thomas (19)
71/C Alex Len (19)
74/PF Anthony Tolliver (11)
72/SF T.J. Warren (10)
69/SG Archie Goodwin (0)
65/PF Shavlik Randolph (0)
INACTIVE
71/PG Tyler Ennis (0)
70/SG Zoran Dragic (0)

OVERRATED
82/PG Goran Dragic (16.3 PER, 58 TS%, 22 USG%, 17 AST%)
Dragic's production is down from last season, though his full-time position switch to SG (where he rates 84 OVR) has had a major impact there.

UNDERRATED
71/C Alex Len (13.6 PER, 60 TS%, 12 USG%)
Has outplayed starter Miles Plumlee thus far.  Has a bit more upside going forward (only 21 years old) so he's a player to watch.

POSITION ADJUSTMENTS
SHOOTING GUARD: Goran Dragic (+2)
CENTER: Shavlik Randolph (-1)

SACRAMENTO KINGS
9-9 (9th West, 14th NBA)
3.77 SRS (8th West, 10th NBA)

STARTERS
80/PG Darren Collison (32)
73/SG Ben McLemore (37)
84/SF Rudy Gay (35)
73/PF Jason Thompson (27)
89/C DeMarcus Cousins (31)
BENCH
72/SF Omri Casspi (22)
74/PG Ramon Sessions (17)
76/PF Carl Landry (17)
73/SG Nik Stauskas (12)
72/SF Derrick Williams (10)
73/C Reggie Evans (0)
71/PG Ray McCallum (0)
73/C Ryan Hollins (0)
65/PF Eric Moreland (0)
INACTIVE

OVERRATED
73/PF Jason Thompson (5.4 PER, 39 TS%, 11 USG%)
On the one hand, I think Thompson's fine because you obviously want a low-usage player next to a dominant center like Cousins, but he still needs to knock down the shots he does take.

73/SG Nik Stauskas (5.6 PER, 44 TS%, 12 USG%)
Clearly struggling with his shot.

UNDERRATED
89/C DeMarcus Cousins (27.8 PER, 59 TS%, 33 USG%)
DMC is the best offensive center we've seen in quite some time, perhaps since Shaquille O'Neal, as over the past decade we've really only had Yao Ming (medical retirement), Brook Lopez (multiple injuries), Amare Stoudemire (injuries, stints at power forward), and Dwight Howard (no post moves).

80/PG Darren Collison (19.2 PER, 54 TS%, 21 USG%, 31 AST%)
Has really found a home in Sacramento.  The decision to let Isaiah Thomas walk away for nothing is at least defensible now.

POSITION ADJUSTMENTS
CENTER: Reggie Evans (-2)

LOS ANGELES LAKERS
5-14 (13th West, 24th NBA)
-4.51 SRS (14th West, 24th NBA)

STARTERS
76/PG Jeremy Lin ()
89/SG Kobe Bryant ()
74/SF Wesley Johnson ()
75/PF Carlos Boozer ()
77/C Jordan Hill ()
BENCH
78/SF Nick Young (25)
69/PG Ronnie Price (20)
76/C Ed Davis (19)
68/C Robert Sacre (15)
70/SG Wayne Ellington (15)
70/PG Jordan Clarkson (0)
INACTIVE
71/PF Ryan Kelly (INJURED, ETA JANUARY)
70/SF Xavier Henry (INJURED, OUT FOR SEASON)
76/PF Julius Randle (INJURED, OUT FOR SEASON)
76/PG Steve Nash (INJURED, OUT FOR SEASON)

OVERRATED
89/SG Kobe Bryant (20.0 PER, 49 TS%, 36 USG%)
Kobe is putting up shots at an historic rate but his shooting percentage is in the gutter.  Age has simply caught up and he is no longer a superstar.

UNDERRATED
77/C Jordan Hill (19.8 PER, 55 TS%, 19 USG%, 14 ORB%)
76/C Ed Davis (18.0 PER, 61 TS%, 13 USG%, 14 ORB%)
68/C Robert Sacre (15.1 PER, 52 TS%, 20 USG%, 9 TO%)

Keep grabbing them "Kobe-Assists" fellas.

POSITION ADJUSTMENTS
SMALL FORWARD: Nick Young (NC)
