Finally, some results to hang my hat on

2K revised their touch tendencies so I implemented them, made some tweaks, and ran a test to see how they'd hold up. The results, as usual, were far from perfect, but ultimately were very promising.

CELTICS (84 Overall) vs KNICKS (76 Overall)

GAME SETTINGS
Difficulty: All-Star
Quarters: 12 Minutes
Game Speed: Normal

SLIDER CHANGES
20 Dunk In Traffic success
15 Contact Shot success
55 Driving Contact Frequency
55 Inside Contact Frequency

KNICKS
115 Points
38-80 FG (47%)
10-30 3PT (33%)
29-33 FT (87%)
23 Assists
13 Turnovers
17 Fouls
52 Rebounds (7 Off)
3 Steals
3 Blocks
38 Paint Points
45 Bench Points
10 Second Chance Points
2 Fast Break Points (as usual, the game has no idea what constitutes a fast break)

CELTICS
111 Points
39-96 FG (40%)
10-25 3PT (40%)
23-29 FT (79%)
25 Assists
3 Turnovers
18 Fouls
43 Rebounds (8 Off)
11 Steals
18 Paint Points
11 Bench Points
10 Second Chance Points
2 Fast Break Points

I am pleased with the decreased points in the paint for both teams. Part of this was due to the teams going to the FT line more often when they get the ball inside, which is actually realistic. However, it is really annoying that the game ONLY calls shooting fouls, with the occasional loose ball foul. Never a reach, never a charge, just blocking/shooting fouls. However, I'm reluctant to adjust this because a decrease in FTA would lead to an increase in FGA. It's just something to note for the moment.

KNICKS BOX: Pts-Reb-Ast-Stl-Blk-TO-Fls-Mins (FG, 3PT, FT)
T.Mozgov: 0-6-0-0-0-0-1-16 (0-0 FG, 0-0 3PT, 0-0 FT)
A.Stoudemire: 35-13-3-0-1-2-3-37 (13-21 FG, 0-1 3PT, 9-9 FT)
D.Gallinari: 9-7-0-0-0-1-1-24 (3-11 FG, 2-6 3PT, 1-2 FT)
L.Fields: 10-6-2-1-0-0-3-33 (2-10 FG, 2-10 3PT, 4-4 FT)
R.Felton: 16-0-11-1-0-4-1-32 (5-10 FG, 0-1 3PT, 6-6 FT)
BENCH
W.Chandler: 28-7-0-0-1-0-3-35 (11-18 FG, 6-10 3PT, 0-0 FT)
Douglas: 7-1-4-1-0-3-0-20 (1-1 FG, 0-0 3PT, 5-6 FT)
Turiaf: 6-10-0-0-1-2-2-25 (2-3 FG, 0-0 3PT, 2-4 FT)
Walker: 0-1-1-0-0-1-2-14 (0-3 FG, 0-1 3PT, 0-0 FT)
Mason: 4-1-2-0-0-0-1-9 (1-3 FG, 0-1 3PT, 2-2 FT)

Final Knick Lineup: Felton, Douglas, Fields, Chandler, Stoudemire

Mozgov not involved at all. I noticed his close tendency is low so I'll boost that. In 16 minutes, he should have at least taken a shot, even if he's playing next to Amare.

Amare had 23 points in the first half (12 FGA, 7 FTA) in 1st half, but only 12 points in the second half (9 FGA, 2 FTA) because the Celtics started doubling him.

Fields took all his shots from deep. I noticed his Inside/Close tendency is low so hopefully a boost will balance his shooting spread. Half his shots IRL are threes, but 10 of 10 is a bit much.

Felton had a solid game. Just noticed his 3pt tend is only 21, and should probably be higher now that he's a Knick instead of a Bobcat. Relatively minor tweak.

Chandler caught fire in the 4th quarter and went ballistic. He only has a 69 3pt rating. That's the power of "fire". For those who weren't aware, this is exactly what Chandler has been doing through the first three games, ridiculous 3pt shooting not withstanding.

CELTICS BOX: Pts-Reb-Ast-Stl-Blk-TO-Fls-Mins (FG, 3PT, FT)
S.O'Neal: 7-8-0-3-0-0-2-24 (2-6 FG, 0-0 3PT, 3-3 FT)
K.Garnett: 26-12-1-3-0-0-3-35 (12-20 FG, 0-0 3PT, 2-5 FT)
P.Pierce: 26-1-3-2-0-1-1-33 (11-25 FG, 2-6 3PT, 2-2 FT)
R.Allen: 35-4-5-0-0-0-2-37 (9-20 FG, 7-14 3PT, 10-10 FT)
R.Rondo: 6-2-9-1-0-0-6-43 (2-8 FG, 0-2 3PT, 2-2 FT)
BENCH
G.Davis: 4-9-2-1-0-1-0-25 (1-4 FG, 0-0 3PT, 2-3 FT)
M.Daniels: 2-0-1-1-0-0-1-16 (0-4 FG, 0-0 3PT, 2-4 FT)
N.Robinson: 0-0-1-0-0-1-0-13 (0-4 FG, 0-2 3PT, 0-0 FT)
J.O'Neal: 2-6-3-0-0-0-3-15 (1-1 FG, 0-0 3PT, 0-0 FT)
V.Wafer: 3-1-0-0-0-0-0-6 (1-4 FG, 1-1 3PT, 0-0 FT)

Final Celtic Lineup: Robinson, Allen, Pierce, Garnett, Davis

The big three did the majority of the Celtics damage. I'm not with it, because this team is too deep for that. KG/Pierce/Allen should not be combining for 65 FGA anymore, not with this many weapons. A higher Touch tendency for Shaq seems to be in order. Shaq, btw, had 3 steals, which is likewise not cool.

Rondo was not aggressive at all, but I have a feeling this has to do with the plays being run. He fouled out at the end due to intentional fouls, not because of overaggressive defense. Rondo hasn't been much of a scorer through the first 3 games, and has been piling up assists like nobodies business, but on this night he only had 9 in 43 minutes despite big nights for the big three.

GAMETRACK
I would have loved to post the GT data, however I accidentally hit re-match instead of Gametrack.

Off the top of my head, Amare had 4 dunks. Two were alley-oops, another from terrible P/R defense, and an uncontested standing dunk underneath. There was also a dunk that Shaq "blocked" except the ball clipped through his hand and Amare was rewarded with a foul call.

Pierce had something like 5 or 6 post ups from the mid-post. Getting those shots to Shaq would have been ideal.

Finally, 2K really needs to fix their defensive A.I. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON why players should be mixing up assignments coming up the floor AFTER A MADE BASKET. Every single time this happens it's an automatic basket, because the PGs can't stop the Cs in the post, and the Cs can't stop the PGs off the dribble.

I don't have an ETA for my next roster update yet, but it should be soon - probably when I finish "Re-TOUCHing" all the teams (about 40% done).

Thanks man really appreciate this, 40% done
Sounds promising...question...although gameplay is by far
The most important thing,

did you ever think about getting a partner (like you got for your ps3 conversions) to modify accessories and such once your gameplay updates become final?

Or do you do them yourself? Figured that would add to the realism and less work for you

I was playing last night and noticed that playing a 3-2 zone is extremely effective in this game.
I know that basically no team in the NBA runs zones a lot, I thought it should be something to take note of.

u didn't mentioned the celtics attempts

dont you think 96 FGA is quite high for a team like celtics ???
even for the warriors it would be really high considering they had the most FGA avg. last season with 88

celtics is one of the slowest paced teams with averages of about 78/80 FGA

Rashidi said...

Celtics high FGA is entirely due to them only committing 3 turnovers, while forcing the Knicks into 13 (11 steals).

Rashidi said...

Both teams should be posting higher turnover rates and sliders will have to be tinkered with to generate that.

you are right,
although knicks 13turnovers with 23assists looks good to me while on the other hand 25assists with 3 turnovers are just sick ;D

Looking good.

Rashidi, just noticed your e-mail in my spam folder (thanks Hotmail!). Totally sorry about that.

Hey rashidi, love your rosters but I was just wondering if you could look at blake griffin, he isn't nearly as fast or quick as he is in real life. also bledsoe is a little slow. I know they are rookies, but the athleticism part of the player is something that translates almost 100% to the nba if not more.

Thanks!

are you using the sim slider set?

Rashidi said...

Griffin's athleticism is greatly boosted in my roster. 74 Speed and 88 Quickness.

Rashidi said...

I am not using the sim slider set, as it is proven to not be "sim".

ye - griffin is really fast, reminds me sometimes more of a SF ;)
