TEAM RATINGS
Rating is average of Defense and Offense (2K's Overall proven to be inaccurate)

Rating, Team (Defense-Offense-Overall)

Please note that injuries are factored in, and that team rotations & player minutes matter just as much as the player ratings (if not more so). For instance, taking a mere two minutes away from Kobe Bryant and giving them to Derek Fisher will result in a 1 point reduction to the team's defensive rating (-0.5 overall). Taking Matt Barnes out of the rotation and giving all of his minutes to Luke Walton would result in a 3 point reduction to defense and a 1 point reduction to offense (-2.0 overall).

Where is Andris Biedrins??

themove said...

Tyrus Thomas 82 overall and by you ranked #6 PF in the game? Really? Jacked up more than your Randolph. Guy gets 20mpg and can't start over Diaw.

Ill take your ratings over 2k but Ill be going back to defualt on Thomas since hes done nothing to get a boast especially +11 overall boast.

Tyrus Thomas:

Ranks #25 in the NBA in Field-Goal Percentage (0.515)

Ranks #43 in the NBA in Free-Throw Percentage (0.833)

Ranks #23 in the NBA in Field Goals Per 48 Minutes (9.88)

Ranks #22 in the NBA in Free Throws Per 48 Minutes (7.34)

Ranks #35 in the NBA in Rebounds Per 48 Minutes (13.2)

Ranks #9 in the NBA in Blocks Per 48 Minutes (3.42)

Ranks #27 in the NBA in Points Per 48 Minutes (27.1)

Ranks #12 in the NBA in Efficiency Ranking Per 48 Minutes (32.28)

With an 82 rating, he is ranked 29th overall in the game

Good man.

Tyrus Thomas is not even a top 100 player in the NBA. he can't even start on one of the worst teams in the NBA with no good fowards or centers period.

Instead of efficiency how about trying common sense!

Ranking him a top 6 PF in the game is dumber and mor eidiot than anything the 2k insider has done in rosters.

themove said...

Kevin Martin is ranked #2 in ppg per 48 mins. Guess that means hes the 2nd best scorer in the NBA!

Sheldon Williams is #15 in rebounds per 48 mins guess he is a top 15 rebounder in the NBA.

Tony Allen is #1 for steal per 48 min. Nobody robs players like Allen.

Guess this is how you view players is you lack common sense!

@TheMove

Get a life.

^You really like looking at that overall rating.

Making rosters is about evaluating talent and the players. Rashidi sucks big time at this. Every attribute is not about stats. Stats lie and mislead! You have to use common sense to weed out the crazy stats that might make a player like Tyrus Thomas accually seem like hes good and not just a talented player who is raw and dumb as a brick. Same goes with Rashidi's overrating of Anthony Randolph. Randolph is raw as hell and two very good coaches couldn't get him to produce.

You do put morer time into the rosters and of course the 2k insider slacks big time. on 1-10 on a lazy scale the 2k insider is a 10. His rosters are better though.

Your SoDs, and Sits are messed up big time. You will have players like OJ Mayo with a 50 sod but than give someone like Darko a 68 sit saying he shoot of the dribble better than a guard with good handles.

Common Man!

themove said...

I want to use your rosters because you put way more time in and look at every player but anyone can look at stats that doesn't mean you know anything. Stats mislead.

Your rosters are good if you want rosters that reflects how a player is playing right now. But 99% of ppl use your roster for a association and I want a player rated fairly and not just how his last 10 games went.

If a player is playing bad its ok to lower him down alittle. But lowering a player from a stud to a scrub is way to far. Same goes for someone that could never hit a 3pt shot but so far this year is money. They shouldn't be jack up but they should go up alittle. Can't be so quick to jump the gun.

"Randolph is raw as hell and two very good coaches couldn't get him to produce."

He produced REALLY well when Nelson actually played him in GS. D'Antoni won't even give him a chance since he runs a tight rotation.

As for Tyrus, just looking at his ratings, they're not too bad except for the 79 Off Awareness/80 mid range. He's not 1 point worse of a mid-range shooter than Kobe Bryant, whose 81 mid-range shot is way too low. But I'm guessing you're basing this off the current season.

Davon Brown said...

Hey Rashidi nice job on the rosters! What's the likelihood of releasing another roster before Christmas?

Anonymous said...

The hittest team now in NBA, top of every power ranking, also the deepest team is ranked 9th in your ratings? Are the injuries included or are these uninjured overalls for teams?

Rashidi said...

As has been said, players do not always have control over their minutes. Do you think Gary Forbes is a better player than J.R. Smith?

Anonymous said...

Wow so andre miller and jarryd bayless are rated the same! good job! These two are totally equivalent players! That's why the Blazers traded Bayless away for nothing and Dre plays 38 minutes a game on a playoff team, while Bayless can't get 20 minutes a game off the bench for Toronto. Duh, how had I not noticed this.

Also, LaMarcus Aldridge is putting up around 30 ppg and 15 rpg over the past two weeks. Obviously he is a middle of the road power forward.

Sorry to be a homer, but the east coast bias and just general inattention here has me looking to other rosters.

Rashidi said...

Kevin Martin is ranked #2 in ppg per 48 mins. Guess that means hes the 2nd best scorer in the NBA!

Are you trying to deny he is a good scorer? He's ranked 11th per game despite playing fewer minutes (31.8) than everyone else on the top 20.

Sheldon Williams is #15 in rebounds per 48 mins guess he is a top 15 rebounder in the NBA.

I'm confused. Rebounding is the only reason Shelden Williams is in the league, thus doesn't deserve credit for his one viable NBA skill?

Tony Allen is #1 for steal per 48 min. Nobody robs players like Allen.

Aside from Rondo and Paul, you are 100% correct. Wait, you were trying to tell us otherwise? Where have you been the last 5 years?

Rashidi said...

LOL @ you calling Mike D'Antoni and Don Nelson good coaches.

In case you forgot so soon, Randolph produced for Don Nelson.

I only use season stats. I could care less about the last 10 games with one exception: Minutes per game.

Rashidi said...

Hey Rashidi nice job on the rosters! What's the likelihood of releasing another roster before Christmas?

Very high. I need to get Mike Miller healthy, plus I found a few tweaks I missed.

The hittest team now in NBA, top of every power ranking, also the deepest team is ranked 9th in your ratings? Are the injuries included or are these uninjured overalls for teams?

Yes. Celtics have Rondo out, Bulls have Noah out, Lakers just got back Bynum. I'm assuming you're talking about the Spurs. I didn't get a chance to tweak their ratings but they will be adjusted (and completed) by Christmas.

Rashidi said...

Tyrus Thomas is hitting 53% of his mid-range shots, which isn't a fluke, because he hit 44% of them last year too.

Thomas only has 48 SOD rating so he isn't going to be making them off the dribble like Kobe will.

Also worth noting that Kobe is 16 points better from Close range (the other half of mid-range game).

It is also definitely worth noting that Kobe only hits 2.1 mid-range shots per game (5.5 attempts), while Thomas hits 1.2 in his 20 mpg. Thomas might be known as a dunker, but he's obviously developed his jumper. Nobody has noticed yet because he plays for Charlotte (and because his minutes have been limited).

Garbage rosters.

Rashidi said...

The reason the Bobcats are 9-18 is because Thomas is not playing enough minutes. He has easily been their best player so far but instead Larry Brown continues to use schlubs like Shaun Livingston and Dominic McGuire more frequently. Even Kwame Brown is stealing time from Thomas.

As has been stated in Anthony Randolph discussions, players do not have control over hard headed coaches.

The Bobcats are the 3rd worst offensive team in the league, and Thomas has EASILY been their most effective offensive player. He is shooting 51.5% from the field and 83% from the line.
Gerald Wallace is shooting 43% from the field and 73% from the line.
Stephen Jackson is shooting 42% from the field and gets to the line half as much as either player.
Boris Diaw shoots 51% from the field but doesn't get to the line AT ALL.

Should be fairly obvious what the team needs more of, and it's not Livingston/McGuire/Kwame.

Larry Brown loves those type of players though (blue collar veterans without a lick of offensive talent), so I hardly expect that to change.

Rashidi said...

Bobcats PER

12.2 Kwame Brown

10.2 Shaun Livingston
9.8 Matt Carroll
7.6 Dominic McGuire
6.1 Gerald Henderson
4.5 DaSagana Diop

What more can he do to earn playing time????? He is the lone bright spot on the team. At the very least he deserves 30 mpg, which would have him in Sixth Man of Year discussion.

Wait does Josh Smith actually have a higher three than Joe Johnson?

Rashidi said...

Andre Miller averages 13 points and 7 assists in 33 mpg. He also shoots 6% (1-18) from three point range.

Jerryd Bayless in Toronto is averaging 12 points and 4 assists in 22 mpg. He is also shooting 39.5% from 3pt range as a Raptor (15-38).

Common sense has always dictated that Bayless is a much better scorer than Andre Miller. That's why none of us were surprised when Bayless dropped 31, 20, and 17 in his last three starts.

You were watching the NBA this week, right?

Also, LaMarcus Aldridge is putting up around 30 ppg and 15 rpg over the past two weeks. Obviously he is a middle of the road power forward.

LaMarcus Aldridge is averaging 20.1 ppg and 8.8 rpg through 12 December games.

You sir, are a liar. Perhaps you have him mixed up with Amare Stoudemire?

Aldridge only has two 30 point games over his last ten, and has 5 games where he didn't even crack 20 (including a 4 point stinker vs the Clippers).

Lets not get started on his rebounding either. He has only cracked 10 boards over his last 4 games (10, 10, 12, and 19). I'm not sure which universe you're from where that averages out to 15, but I'd rather not be a part of it.

Also, it seems you are not aware that 6 days (Dec 15th to the 20th) does not constitute one week, much less TWO. Aldridge had two consecutive 30+ point games that came on the heels of a week that saw him score 14, 23, 16, and 13, while also compiling the following rebound totals: 6, 4, 7, 6.

Put all those numbers together and what do you get?

Johnson is 24-98 (.245) on threes this season. It should be noted that 71 is exactly where 2K's rosters have him.

Josh Smith is 22-50 (.440) on threes this season. 78 is where I have him. 63 is where 2K has him.

Smith's 50 SOD ensures he is only effective off the catch, while Johnson's 73 SOD grants him more situations in which he can launch his inefficient long range jumper.

When JJ shows he can hit the three again, he goes up. What is so difficult to understand about this concept? He has played like ASS this season and his 3pt stroke is perhaps the most important reason why.

Rashidi said...

What part of 48 SOD did you not understand? Thomas is obviously a respectable shooter if he is hitting half of his mid-range shots over the last two seasons, wide open or not.

PLAYER A
88 Close
81 Mid
94 Handle
76 SOD
87 Security

PLAYER B
72 Close
80 Mid
58 Handle
48 SOD
37 Security

It shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the vast difference between these two players.

But since I believe I'm dealing with a special case here...

Player A can create his own shot from anywhere at any time, without negative penalty.

Player B cannot create his own shot, and any attempts to do so come with severe penalty (decreased accuracy and turnover risk).

themove said...

You do realize that standing still wide open kobe would make more jumpers than Thomas right? I don't care what both players SoD is. Im saying both players spoting up and shooting Thomas is still not close to Kobe.

Like tyhe anonymous guy said Thier is a big difference in between playing 20mpg and say 38mpg. Also playing against a teams bench and not being much focus on defense.

Alot of players that are talented don't get the minutes because they are bone heads or pick up to many fouls or just can't play more minutes.

I think Larry Brown and every coach in the NBA knows more about thier players and line ups than you, me and everyone else.

Is that why the intangible heavy Blazers are one game over .500?

Is that also why Andre Miller has enjoyed a "significant" amount of playoff success? His teams are 9-24 in the playoffs, including 2006 when his 3rd seed Nuggets were obliterated by the 6th seed CLIPPERS in 5 games. The man just has the magic something. (It surely isn't his jumpshot).

Anyway the teams I did not get a chance to tweak are as follows: Blazers, Warriors, Nuggets, Nets, Pistons, Pacers.

Miller will surely go up as his assists and steals are up from last season, even if his 3pt shooting is even worse.

Smith: 15.6 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 2.2 bpg, 33.6 mpg
Thomas: 11.5 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.5 bpg, 20.5 mpg

You guys need it repeated every single time a roster drops? The overall ratings of players are skewed by 2K's retarded rating system. Offensive and Defensive Awareness raises overalls by huge amounts. Players are certain positions are raised or lower based on skill set.

The classic example of this is Dirk Nowitzki who is always in the low 80s despite being arguably a top 10 game in the league at any given time.

Whoever is saying Jarryd Bayless is a worse player than Andre Miller at this point in either career is nuts. No chance you've seen Bayless play in Toronto like I have. He's playing better than he ever has and it's about his minutes and not the rest of the team. He's showing actual point guard skills with his playmaking and can score (which isn't a revelation). He's playing defense and making clutch plays even. When he starts he plays infinitely better than Andre Miller.

It goes without saying that the players at the top of the list are generally physical players that look to create contact with their opponent, while the players at the bottom are mostly finesse players who aren't taking many contested shots, or look to avoid contact.

Tyson Chandler may not be a featured offensive player but neither are Samuel Dalembert, Nazr Mohammed, Chuck Hayes, etc. There's a reason he is converting through contact significantly more than they are.

Shelb said...

Centers will generally have higher SIT ratings because they:

1. Face off against bigger, more physical defenders

2. Have to take more contested shots, as they are not faking out defenders or crossing people over

3. Because of their size, finish in traffic more (as they are literally at the rim most of the time) and take more dunks than other players

If Centers don't have high SIT ratings, they will miss contested dunks on a regular basis and it's unrealistic. Don't look at the rating compared to smaller players, look at how they play.

Stop trying to rate players based on their reputations! Tyson Chandler is playing his best this year. Just because you don't think he reserves rating x in category y, doesn't mean he's not playing at the level the rating deserves.

Also, some ratings, like SIT or awareness, etc. don't have any players deserving of 99s or those extremely high ratings. Kobe shouldn't get a 99 in SIT or SOD or whatever just because he's the best in the league at it right now. If you want players making every shot they take, play NBA Jam.

(The one player I would say has a overrated SIT rating is Reggie Evans as he misses nearly every defended dunk he attempts this year.)

chad said...

Your response to the SIT "comment" made me think of something. Does Derrick Rose's inane habit of contorting around defenders affect your SIT ratings by way of his low (I'm assuming) And-1%? I don't have your roster in front of me so I don't really know where you have Rose's SIT rating. I know it's impossible to watch every minute of every game, that's why you use stats, which as opposed to some commenters, I have no problem with. In any case Rose's situation would seem to be the exception rather than the norm. Hopefully this won't spark another argument about how Kobe's shot ratings need to be 99 because he's someone's favorite player.

The only way a roster will be done 100% is when it's in the off season. How can anyone say that a roster is 100% done if there are games every single day? A player can get injured any day. A player can be playing poor and get out his funk any day.

A perfect example is Chris Bosh, who started the season poorly but is now playing so well that he's getting three point end of game shot plays being drawn up for him. He went from being the most wanted FA PF this summer to the worst contract in the league to the without a doubt best third option. Bosh is showing again why he had everyone after him after starting slowly out of the gate.

If someone updated every player after the first month of the season and called it the 100% completed roster, would that make it the best roster two months into the season? No.

The reason Rashidi's rosters don't come out every week is because the NBA changes on a daily basis. As a Raptors fan, I can tell you that nearly every roster update Rashidi has released has had a different Raptor player as the best on the roster. Why? Because every week/month, the Raptors have a best player. Jose, Bargs, Barbosa, Amir, Jack... it changes from week to week, month to month and Rashidi's rosters reflect that.

If you don't like his rosters, fuck off. Use 2K's rosters, with the most popular players being the best, no matter the reality.

People may call me a fanboy or whatever, but I'd be right back to 2K if they're rosters made sense. The fact the Rashidi haters are here makes less sense, since they could just as easily ignore him. This is his blog, not 2K's.

I think there is some truth to the criticism on the Tyrus Thomas rating. PER is a fine statistic, but only when players have similar minutes. It notoriously overrates certain players with low playing time. In past years, Marreese Speights has had an amazing PER, but simply isn't an amazing player.

Hey Rashidi,

I was thinking once the PC roster editor comes out I'll put out a PC roster using the newest 2k one as a base but with your ratings. This would allow me to have your good ratings and all of the missing players without any injuries.

Would you be OK with this?

There also MIGHT be a way to package this so it could work on the 360, which would give you a new injury-free base roster to work with, without having to use CAP slots to make missing guys or having Marbury/Iverson still lurking around the FA pool. Interested?

Also what is your methodology for SIT? I had figured out the stats you use for most ratings (mainly the obvious ones), but what do you use for SIT? And-1 is obviously a factor, but is there anything else? Initially I thought it was just Foul Draw %, but that doesn't seem quite right because then a guy like Kevin Martin or Danilo Gallinari would have high SIT.

On the other hand, if Tyson Chandler is 99 with 7.5% and-1, and there are several players with higher rates for that just this season, isn't the ceiling of the scale a bit low?

Dillon said...

So, is there any way you can justify Dallas' overall rating being so low? They are easily one of the top teams in tge league have a great record despite playing a tough schedule, one of the best defenses in the league, and have beaten the only 2 teams that have better record than them.

themove said...

I want to use these rosters and although I don't agree with the sod, and sit and how you did it, I do agree with alot of bigs having better handles.

The thing accually stoping me from using these is the jacked up 3pt ratings. You use the old broken formula that 2k used a few years ago. They are just to jacked up for me. It doesn't make sense to have most players with higher 3pt ratings than FG ratings.

Now the 2k insider is lazy and needs to edit a ton of players but when he does edit a player he does the 3pt rating perfect.

Again my problem with you is your ratings are 100% based on stats and 0% common sense. For example a player can play with a badly sprained wrist for 15 games and shoots 3s at a low percent than when hes healthy he is one of the best 3pt shooters in the NBA but his rating won't reflect that bc you will factor his rating with the sprained wrist and when healthy.

Anyway point made. Alot of players are just way to jacked up.

themove said...

Im sorry but the NBA season is way to early to be going by %s especially with players that couldn't shoot 3s and this year are at a high %. Same goes for players that have been top 3pt shooters in the NBA for years who are having a rough start to the season.

Your supose to bump 3pt rating up alittle or down alittle using common sense. Again im just pointing out what I and some others see as flaws in your rosters.

themove said...

When a player is rated in the 60s for FG rating and you have a 88 or around there for 3pt rating shouldn't that be a red flag. Theres only a few players I can think of ever in the NBA that could shoot 3s at a high % and not hit a FG and thats the retired Bruce Bowen.

I don't see how most your players have higher 3pt ratings than FG ratings.

Unless you bump 3pt sliders lower than FG sliders it doesn't even make sense to shoot a 15ft mid range jumper instead of a three the way you rate most players.

Take Wade for example with a 68 mid range, and 77 3pt rating. Why would you even shoot mid range jumpers with Wade when he will shoot the three at a much higher %?

themove said...

Again don't get me wrong I think I decided to use your rosters for my season but Im gonna have to put in the 2ks 3pt ratings tomorrow and just a feel touch ups like getting tyrus Thomas rated a little lower and so on. I do choose your rosters over 2ks because I figure it will take less work to get more accurate.

Rashidi said...

Im sorry but the NBA season is way to early to be going by %s especially with players that couldn't shoot 3s and this year are at a high %.

Are you really going to deny Josh Smith has improved his 3pt stroke?

2008: 25-99 (.253) in 81 gms
2009: 26-87 (.299) in 69 gms
2010: 0-7 (.000) in 81 gms
2011: 22-50 (.440) through 30 games.

He's not rated in the 80s. He's rated 78. His previous season highs were 38 threes made (2007) and .309 percentage (2006), both of which he will EASILY eclipse this season.

Unless you think he will go 15-100 over the rest of the year.

things that caught my eye

1. Damien Wilkens a 69? this guy cant couldnt even make it in the grizzlies and timberwolves

2. How is Matt Barnes higher than Artest?

3. Lakers' PGs 65 & 66?

4. and now that I read the complaints Tyrus Thomas 82 rating

themove said...

Rashidi do you really think Josh Smith is a better 3pt shooter than Joe Johnson? I would Bet joe Johnson can hit more threes than Josh Smith can hit free throws.

Josh Smith should be rated a 73 for 3pt shot common sense will tell you that.

ATL's own said...

Joe Johnson just had Elbow Surgery 2-3 weeks ago, he's back on the court & has struggled to find his shot.

Latest article in the paper here in the ATL today states that JJ still has trouble extending his arm.

tonight however he shot 3-6 from 3pt, look for JJ to be more consistent in the next couple of weeks

I have no problem with his 71 3pt rating as of now b/c i know in due time he will shoot a better than he has now.

Josh Smith has been money this year from 3, I know because I watch all the hawks games. he's shooting 44% from downtown. He's not going to take u off the dribble and chuck one up, but he's been spotting up & playing SF more this year than before which gives him more chances to shoot from the perimeter.

we're a 1/3 way into the season and theres still room for these players to rise or fall closer to their career averages, but as of NOW & at this point of the season, I think these ratings are justified.

Rashidi said...

When Johnson shows he can hit the three again, he goes up. Not a difficult adjustment to make. JJ's poor shooting is a major reason why the Hawks have struggled despite Smith and Horford's improvement.

1. Damien Wilkens a 69? this guy cant couldnt even make it in the grizzlies and timberwolves

Wilkins will probably go down the next time I check him. He played reasonably well last season, posting his best rebound and defensive numbers to date (as well as his best shooting numbers since 2007). 140 minutes isn't quite enough for me to judge him since there are still some similarities from last season, plus some rust is to be expected since he just joined the team.

He is definitely a better player than Maurice Evans right now, who has been really, really bad this year.

Suggested changes for now
68 Overall (-1)
42 Pass (-5)
51 OffAwr (-3)
45 Consistency (-5)

Rashidi said...

2. How is Matt Barnes higher than Artest?

Artest is having his worst season ever, while Barnes is quietly having his best season.

Artest
10.9 PER (career low)
46.1 TS% (career low)
5.5 ORB%
6.6 DRB% (career low)
9.1 AST% (career low)
3.0 STL%
1.1 BLK%
8.8 TO% (career low)
14.7 USG% (career low)

Artest himself has mused that he is lost in the triangle and just standing around on the 3pt line. His offensive value at this point is completely negligible at this point - he has entered the realm of full-fledged defensive stopper. He'll need to do better than 39% from the field and 32% from three if he doesn't want to end up as a backup, because Barnes is flat outplaying him.

Barnes
16.2 PER (career high)
58.4 TS% (career high)
9.6 ORB% (career high)
16.9 DRB%
12.8 AST%
2.0 STL%
1.5 BLK%
16.8 TO%
17.5 USG%

Barnes does not look lost on offense. He is posting his best 3pt numbers since his Warriors days (notably better than Artest right now), and has always been a much better finisher at the rim than Artest as well. Not to mention a better rebounder.

The only thing Artest really has going for him at this point is his defense, which is better than Barnes' but obviously not enough to make up for the deficiencies in other areas. Barnes is all-around the better player even though he's coming off the bench.

Rashidi said...

3. Lakers' PGs 65 & 66?

Forget that the triangle diminishes the value of PGs and relegates them to 3pt specialists - these guys aren't much beyond that anyway.

Take away Blake's 2009 season and his career is awfully uninspiring. At this point 2009 looks very much like the exception and not the rule. He is a weak defender, can't drive, and his ability to run a team is average for an NBA PG. He is pretty much Chris Duhon with worse defense and a better jumpshot.

Steve Blake
9.0 PER (career low)
56.4 TS% (career high)
1.5 ORB%
10.8 DRB% (career high)
14.8 AST% (career low)
1.2 STL%
0.0 BLK%
20.2 TO%
12.8 USG% (career low)

As stated, becoming a Laker has turned Blake into a 3pt specialist which is why he's posting lows in AST and USG as well as high's in 3pt shooting (hitting 45% right now) since more of his shots are spot ups now. It is worth noting though that he is shooting only 8-36 on 2pters, which exemplifies how one-dimensional he is on offense.

What's concerning however is that his turnover rate has never been higher (aside from rookie season) even though he is handling the ball less than ever. Blake has 5 games already with 3 or more turnovers even though he only plays about 20 minutes per game. By comparison Blake had only 13 such games in 2009 even though he averaged 32 minutes.

I haven't seen enough of Blake to know the exact reason for this, but 82games lists 29 turnovers as of 12/15, 20 of them bad passes and 9 of them ball handling. Blake has a 2.5 assist to bad pass ratio which is extremely poor for ANY player, much less a point guard (even if that PG is merely a shooting specialist). So his passing has definitely suffered as a Laker. Whether it's because of his role, adjusting to his teammates, or some other reason is not yet known to me.

Rashidi said...

By the way, it is definitely worth noting that the Lakers are only 21-8. They have had the easiest schedule in the league by far so far this season.

They have yet to play the Spurs, Mavericks, Thunder, Celtics, Magic, or Heat, while they lost to the Jazz and Nuggets. They have been feasting on weak teams in both conferences, having already played two games against the Raptors, Bucks, Wizards, Pacers, Sixers, Warriors, Wolves, Rockets, and Kings. They are 14-4 in these games, which means they are only 7-4 against everyone else... bearing in mind that they haven't faced ANY elite teams yet.

They are not the class of the league like some analysts would have you believe, and a big reason why has been the struggles of guys like Artest, Fisher, and Blake. LA is essentially playing 3 on 5 half the game.

Rashidi said...

4. and now that I read the complaints Tyrus Thomas 82 rating

I'm excited to see how Paul Silas will use him. It couldn't possibly be any worse than Larry Brown. He somehow used him even less than last year despite his improvements and injuries to key players like Crash.

Brown has nobody to blame but himself for the team's record. I still can't get starting Dominic McGuire and PLAYING HIM 40 MINUTES out of my mind. Like Tyrus Thomas wouldn't be able to hold Marvin Williams.

themove said...

After testing these rosters out all nite and mourning they are not good. I bit my tongue on the Sit and sod ratings and gave it a chance and I am proven right in what I thought.

Shoot in traffic is not how many hits and bumps you get in the post like Rashidi thinks. Its not even a stat for big man period. SiT is for how a slasher manovers the ball when driving in traffic.

I don't care what Rashidi says he is a complete bone head and a moron. I tested players that he has 99 or high SiT like Chandler and Perkins and a bunch more. With high SiT they move the ball left and right and around and make acrobatic shots.

SiT is for players that drive and take it to the hole and make alot of tough shots in traffic. Tyson Chandler was weaving in the paint and throwing up crazy ass shots like he was Lebron or Wade the way rashidi rates them.

Rashidi rosters are bad. He completelty messed up the SiT and SoT attributes for every player. Everyones 3 is jacked up. Everybody in his rosters shoots the 3 better than a mid range jumper.

Got players like Tyrus Thomas rated a 82 overall. Josh Smith and many others like Ilgauskas have a higher 3pt rating than Joe Johnson. Rondo has a higher fg rating than Brandon Jennings and Wade.

I can live with everything else but the Sit, and SoT make the rosters unuseable.

Rashidi said...

Sorry brah but you're gonna need some gameplay video to back that up.

I'm currently using the Mavs against the Mavs on All-Star difficulty, only taking shots with Chandler.

Through the 1st quarter, Chandler is 12-20 from the field and I've drawn four fouls (1x And 1). He has missed just about every "acrobatic" shot that he has taken. The only consistent form of offense he gets is spamming lead pass dunks. Even when he's on fire he will not hit "acrobatic" shots. I can very easily make a "highlight" video out of this, so you're gonna need to backup your claims if you really want them to stand any ground.

Rashidi said...

And by consistent form of offense, I mean 9 of those made shots were lead pass dunk/layups. Half the time I even tried to take a contested shot he would fumble the ball and turn it over. So please stop making things up just because you don't like me.

Whitstatman said...

Lakers are looking pretty bad at moment. Gasol is being overused as of now, averaging 38.5 MPG, which is 2nd highest of his career (highest is 2005-2006, when he was the obvious #1 option in the Grizzlies offense). This offense isn't made for Gasol to be main option. Often times the offense is just sitting around and watching Kobe, as many players (Ahem, Ron Artest) are not understanding the triangle. They also had injury problems with Andrew Bynum, and it will take some time to integrate him into the offense.

They haven't faced elite teams, as Rashidi said, and right now I'm doubting that they will even make the top 3 seeds in the West.

Rashidi said...

If anything they are very fortunate their schedule was so easy while Andrew Bynum was out. It would seem the Lakers are a much better defensive team when Gasol is at PF and not C.

The question now is whether Bynum can improve the situation, or will he be a bench player going forward due to his knees.

Omer Asik should see an increase in his dunk ability as well as standing dunk. The majority of his field goals are dunks and he ranks 12th in dunk frequency, ahead of high fliers such as Tyrus Thomas, Dwight Howard and Andre Iguodala.
I'm not calling for Asik to be rated in the high 70's on dunk, but a mid to high 80 in standing dunk seems appropriate.

Anonymous said...

One more thing regarding Asik (I actually am starting to think you may just have not gotten to him yet), his block rating in the game stands at 57, but he has a 4.5 BLK%.
Compare this to teammate Taj Gibson, with a block rating of 81 and a BLK% of 4.4.

Rashidi said...

Asik's production fluctuates quite a bit due to the nature of his role (only 12 mpg).

A quick look at his last 4 games are all one needs to know about where the block spike came from.

1 block in 10 mins
1 block in 22 mins
2 blocks in 20 mins
2 blocks in 6 mins
Total: 6 blocks in 58 minutes

That contrasts very much from the previous 7 games where he only recorded 1 block in 58 minutes.

Omer Asik

70 Standing Dunk (+5)
77 Block (+20)

like 2-3 secs left they called timeout. i knew it was kobe time and yet the black mamba hit a 3 to win the game and they only needed 2
Great gm.

the ONLY gripe i had was some of pau's mid range shots seemed rushed (coulda been low shot clock) and A.Bynum shot about 3 full mid range shots.

even though Durant & Bosh have the wrong body shapes, this roster is still one of the better ones out there

but these are easy fixes though

what I do is I raise Durant's height to 6'10 & lower his weight to 215

for Bosh lower his weight to 219

I also increase Chuck Hayes weight to get him a bigger body shape

Maybe this will help

5'8" or less 145 - 169 = thin, 170 - 244 = medium, 245 & up = thick

5'9" - 6'9" 145 to 194 = thin, 195 - 269 = medium, 270 & up = thick

6'10" - 7'0" 145 - 219 = thin, 220 - 294 = medium, 295 & up = thick

7'1" & up 145 - 244 = thin, 245 - 294 = medium, 295 & up = thick

I can't believe that I missed Antoine Wright getting waived. I was wondering why he wasn't getting any PT. Totally under the radar, and it went a month without being corrected by anyone, which shows how under the radar it was... is he still on 2K's roster?

Tyreke is playing very poorly due to his foot injury. He has many intangibles unrelated to his injury that boost him up, like his ball handling for instance, that make him difficult to lower substantially. I've already lowered his shot ratings quite a bit, and the rest of his game is fine, so there's not really much I can do there aside from lower them some more.

Jeter is playing great for the Kings right now but it's worth noting I only have him at 62 overall right now and haven't properly edited him yet. I cannot vouch for the PS3 version however.

Casspi is playing at the same level he played at last year. I'll take a deeper look at the Kings soon.

Appreciated, however my stance on video games has always been gameplay > graphics. There's a reason Tetris has stood the test of time. If people can play NCAA games with generic players the majority can surely get through w/ the player models. In fact, all the player models are too big which is why there are so many problems with spacing in this game.

Rashidi said...

What's actually funny about the Wright thing is I know his Jersey groupie; you'd think I would have heard something.

Then again I guess he doesn't have the money to take her out now lol

Also due to the Kings team rating and their status as the worst team in basketball I have been looking to drop them. They are just usually very low on my priorities list as they are one of the least requested teams (and frankly, not very interesting to edit).

Unfortunately, it seems like 2K feels the same way because their Kings ratings have been terrible for YEARS. I hate having to give them a total overhaul every season. At least I get around to it more than once every 2000 days.

Does the listed weight of the player make a difference in the gameplay of 2k11????

Shelb said...

I don't think the weight matters in how a player plays unless you're talking 50+ pounds or 5+ inches. A player like Shaq can't get around a screen like Russell Westbrook because of the canimations but I think that's the only real difference. Play style and position might have more effect than 20 pounds and an inch will.

Shelb said...

Anyway, I think if you lower a player's height/weight real low and then bring it back up you'll get the body shape more correct. I'm without my XBox ATM, so if someone can test that out... I'm sure you can get the body sizes correct somehow regardless.

ATL's own said...

Caveman

that only works on some players, once u hit a certain weight on a height, the body type will automatically change.

hence why I have a 6'11 219 lbs Chris Bosh & a 6'10 219 lbs Kevin Durant

I tried to get Rudy Gay adjusted but will not work unless I have his weight all the way down to 194 lbs, so I just passed on it.

ATL's own said...

weight makes a difference in Real life, but as far as 2k11 I'm not sure if the actual weight listed of the player makes a difference as far as how the player plays.

I believe 2k uses the low post offense/defense attribute and/or strength attribute for that.

Height on the other hand, DOES make a difference.

I just began to follow your work and though I appreciate the time and effort placed into your research and application. I would have to agree with individual like Anonymous and themove, when it comes to generating a players rating based solely on stats there will be inconsistency's. Given the fact you can't factor in shot types (meaning good shots, open/contested, fade/leaner, etc...). Most noted discussions Thomas vs Kobe and Johnson vs Smith. In the case of Kobe/Thomas, you have a player who's the main focus of a team defense, meaning he will see an average of 2 defenders on any given play, cause his shots to be contested 90+ per. of the time. This coupled with the fact Thomas is never a focus for a defense leads to his slips to open areas of the court (areas created by coach to fit the players at this pos. skill set) so I do agree Ty can hit the open mid-range J which he has since LSU, however at the same rate of a Kobe? Even when contested Kobe has a better mid-range game, it's the D which plays the key role in per. With these players having similar rating in the mid-range, when standing still contested or not Ty would be able to hit at a similar percent as a Kobe, which isn't realistic by any stretch. As far as Smith and the 3, his per. is up b/c the type of 3 he's been taking, he would in years past take quick 3 from the top/top wings and 3's off the dribble, whereas now with maturity and coaching he's began more efficient due to better shot selection. He finds a lot more open corner 3's (easier to make due to shorter distance) after penetration as opposed to Johnson who takes pull up 3's in transition/in the half court set court. A much tougher shot, but empty the gym and let them shoot it out Ala Arenas and Stevenson a few yrs. back in Washington (you tube it). Johnson would win 90% of the time. Thus in game situation you would rather Joe shoot the 3, ask any NBA head coach this question and I'm sure they'd prefer Smith, whether he's shooting it at a better percent or not. These are thing that make it hard to accurately judge players on the number rating system. This is a bit long, just thought I'd weigh in to what I think is a relevant and interesting debate or differing of opinions

Your points are valid, but they would only really apply to a game mode in which you have players shooting jumpers in an empty gym. The goal of the roster is to create games in which players act as similar to their real life counterparts as possible. For example, like you say, JJ is considered by most to be a better 3-point shooter than Josh Smith, but he takes many pull-up 3's in transition and makes them at a lower clip than Josh makes his wide open looks. These results are reflected in Rashidi's rosters.

But then, I don't even know why I'm bothering to go into detail

PLAYER A
85 Inside
88 Close
81 Mid
78 3pt
76 SOD
94 Handle
87 Security

PLAYER B
77 Inside
72 Close
80 Mid
51 3pt
48 SOD
58 Handle
37 Security

Not only is Player A the vastly better scorer but also the superior shot creator.

Oops, almost forgot

Hey Rashidi, do you play the game using some form of custom sliders? If so, could you tell us what they are? On operation sports there's a set by puntnl that works really well with your rosters. With you being the 2k guru and all, I figured you'd know some great sliders to complement your rosters, or even if it's best on default!

Anonymous said...

Hey man are you gonna post an update in regards to 2k's recent update? Keep up the good work!

Anonymous said...

why cant you play your rosters on the upper levels like last year?

to easy on all star

completely stupid on higher difficulties.

im curious do you verse the cpu? have you tested how progressive fatigue and injuries play out?

i play 10 mins and cpu is all sets plays, catch and shoots. not alot of freelancing.

not enough cpu ft's.
cpu doesnt attack enough.
force me to foul u cpu

Yeah I guess the previous poster is asking the same thing I am, do you use any custom sliders?

http://www.operationsports.com/forums/nba-2k-sliders/449685-puntnls-nba-2k11-slider-tweaks-use-real-2k-insider-roster.html

is a good set for all who don't have any, but Rashidi, could you please tell us your set?

This is his slider set on his website:

15 Contact Shot success
55 Driving Contact Frequency
55 Inside Contact Frequency

if you cant win with rashidi's roster on higher difficulties, you need to get your skills up.

Anonymous said...

No one said they couldn't. I just asked if he used any customs.

Thank youvery much. One more question, is this with default gamestyle besides these changes, or is it the changes, but under "simulation" gamestyle?

^^^It is for custom because default and simulation does not allow you to change the sliders.

In the future please refrain from linking to Operation Sports since I was banned for linking there (which means I can't read the post anyway). Just copy & paste the applicable information into the comment box.

Rashidi said...

Also to use HTML it has to be with <> instead of []

If someone could link me to the editor that'd be great. To be honest I've been busy at work this week and next week will be no different, so no promises on when I'll actually get a chance to use it.

I do intend on posting a new update sometime soon. I'm almost to the point where I could be doing daily updates.

to the person saying "get your skills up" when playing rashidi's roster on higher levels.
can do but u have to cheat like the cpu.
the cpu is faster on the break which is 2k's fault.
faster to everything all star and up.

im saying to get a fair sim game you have to play all star.

True true, but when you edit one of the sliders, no matter the setting it'll switch to custom, so I just wanted to know if he used default as the base, or simulation as the base.

As most who follow this thread probably know I want to adjust as less sliders as possible and with the use of this roster I hope to have even less adjustments from the default gamestyle.
This post will be used for the slider set (tweaks) specially cut for Rashidi's roster.

Of course the goal remains to get an enjoyable and realistic game of basketball (with as realistic as possible stats) and to do so with adjusting as less sliders as possible.

Gameplay
Difficulty: Pro
Game Style: Custom (start with default as a base for adjusting the sliders mentioned below)
Game Speed: 50
Quarter Length: 12 minutes
Fatigue: On
Injuries: On
Clutch factor: On
Shooting type: Real player %
FT Shooting type: Real player %
FT difficulty: 50

Select default gamestyle and than adjust the sliders mentioned below, so everything else remains on 50. If only one value is stated this value applies to both user and cpu, if two values are stated the 1st value is for the user and the 2nd for the cpu.

Between the (brackets) some adjustments if the standard set is not challenging enough

Offense
Inside Shot: 48 (48/49)
Close Shot: 50 (50/51)
Mid Range: 51 (51/52)
3 Pt: 53
Dunks in traffic: 42
Pass accuracy: 48
Contact shot: 45

Defense
Driving contact shot freq: 82
Inside contact shot freq: 85
Help defense: 70
Steal success: 47

Attributes
Hustle: 60
On-ball Defense: 58 (58/63)
Offensive Rebounding: 60
Defensive Rebounding: 40
Clutch Factor: 35
Fatigue Rate: 46

Tendencies
Attack the Basket: 60
Look for post player: 80

Commit Fouls: 80
Playing Passing Lanes: 42

Fouls
Over the back: 100

Shooting: 63
Loose Ball: 100

Also, I just want to say THANK YOU Rashidi. Clearly you are far superior to the 2K Insider. I and everyone else are very appreciative for your efforts in fixing 2K's mess. Don't work too hard, kick back, relax, grab a beer and actually enjoy the game lol. Hopefully 2K hires you soon, as you've proven to be far more competent that them...and they get paid to do this...amazing.

Rashidi uses default as a base because he tried simulation and he said that it is horrible on his website.

Cool, thanks man. Could you tell me where his website is?

You're looking at it.

REDitor II has been released finally.

http://forums.nba-live.com/viewtopic.php?f=136&t=76092

Is there a specific roster from 2k you want to use as a base? I am pretty sure you can change injury status using REDitor.

I thought the update was sometime soon, Rashidi.

Hey Rashidi,

Rim shot & <10 feet shot are Inside Shot for nba 2k11.

For close shot, refer to 10-15 feet !

Close shot =/= <10 feet & 10-15 feet imo.
