Real 2K Insider [12-25-09] Xmas Special

This was a massive update, easily my biggest ever. Happy holidays.

I only list the changes to overall, but make no mistake, there are plenty of players who get tweaked every week with no change in overall rating. Just about every player receieved an edit this week. I recently developed a scale for determining "Shoot Off Dribble" and "Shoot In Traffic" ratings that should lead to more realistic play.

LATEST NEWS (Player Movement, Injury, and Rotation news)

Von Wafer attempted to sign with the Rockets but failed his physical, and Houston opted to sign Mike Harris from the D-League instead. Expect the Grizzlies to pursue Wafer once he gets healthy, as the Rockets will only have room for Von if they trade T-Mac.

Eric Maynor and Matt Harpring were traded from the Utah Jazz to the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a giveaway that will save the Jazz about 13 million dollars after luxury tax payments. If you recall, the Jazz had to take out a loan in order to match the offer sheet the Blazers signed Paul Millsap to, and this is one of the after effects. Portland GM Kevin Pritchard essentially forced Utah into trading their 2009 first round pick at the cost of re-signing Millsap.

Tyrus Thomas is returning from injury, but not to the starting lineup just yet. Taj Gibson will resume starting over Brad Miller for the time being, while John Salmons was demoted to the bench in favor of Kirk Hinrich. Miller and Salmons have been struggling with their starting roles, so perhaps a move back to the bench will get them back in order. Meanwhile, there have been rumors that the Bulls are looking at Lawrence Frank to replace coach Vinny Del Negro. VDN has proven to be in over his head in his first coaching gig, while Frank brings an excellent track record in New Jersey and a defensive mindset.

Marreese Speights and Louis Williams both returned ahead of schedule from their injuries, a much needed boost as Allen Iverson is still getting into game shape and dealing with injuries of his own. Philly has played much better with Elton Brand coming off the bench, and they could make a playoff push if their core maintains it's health for the duration of the season.

Jameer Nelson returned to the starting lineup in Orlando, while Brandon Bass has fallen out of the rotation and onto the trading block. Bass was not a great fit on a team that likes to surround Dwight Howard with 4 shooters. Orlando re-signed Marcin Gortat as it's backup center (after signing Bass, mind you) in the offseason, while Ryan Anderson's 3pt shooting has predictably made him invaluable at the 4 spot, and this has left precious little time for the big fish to make his mark.

Paul Pierce had minor surgery and will be out approximately two weeks. Tony Allen replaces him in Boston's starting lineup. Pierce's usual backup, Marquis Daniels, is targeting the all-star break for his own return from injury.

Another man down in Portland. This time it's Joel Przybilla, who joins fellow center Greg Oden on the sideline for the rest of the year. Travis Outlaw and Nicholas Batum are unlikely to play before April, while Rudy Fernandez and Patrick Mills are still sidelined until January. On the bright side, Jeff Pendergraph healed from his injuries and made his debut just in time to fill the Przybilla void. 36 year old Juwan Howard replaces Pryz in the starting lineup. Not the season Portland fans were expecting, to say the least.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BIGGEST MOVERS

Pau Gasol has been a rebounding machine since his return from injury, and recently received a contract extension worth approximately 67 million over 3 years. The one downside is his return seems to have negatively impacted Andrew Bynum's production (though a decline was sure to be expected).

Devin Harris' decline in productivity is a key reason the Nets have only won 2 games since his return from injury. He is shooting only 38% from the field, and a pitiful 19% from behind the arc through 19 games.

Andrew Bogut has been the man in Milwaukee, admirably anchoring the league's 4th best defense. He is having the best shot blocking year of his career, while also taking a much larger offensive role than in the past.

Tyreke Evans has been on a tear to rip Rookie of the Year from Brandon Jennings clutches. He is averaging 20/5/5 and the only rookies to ever do that were Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson.

Shawn Marion has not returned to all-star form, and the decline he showed over the last two seasons appears to be legit. He is shooting only 47% from the field despite abandoning the 3pt shot altogether (0-6 through 26 games), and his .508 TS% is a career worst. Worst of all, his defensive rebounding is plummeting at an astronomical rate, from 8.0 in 2008, 5.9 in 2009, to an embarrassing 3.8 in 2010. The scary thing is he is still signed for another 4 years in Dallas. Raise your hand if you think Marion will be worth 9.3 million dollars when he is 35 years old?

Jerryd Bayless has been one of the few bright spots in Portland, as he is finally getting solid run with all the injuries. He has mostly played at SG with Roy at SF, and it remains to be seen if he can keep it up once Rudy Fernandez returns to health.

Danilo Gallinari has shown he is more than just a 3pt shooter; he is one of the best shot blockers on the Knicks, and not nearly as bad defensively as we all thought. Combined with the resurrection of Chris Duhon, the Knicks have been on a tear, going 8-4 in December after starting the season 1-9.

Omri Casspi and Donte Greene have been solid contributors to Sacramento's surprising rise to mediocrity in the west (not an insult, as any mediocre west team would be an east playoff team without question). Casspi appears to have taken the starting SF job away from Andres Nocioni, while Greene is splitting time with the veteran forward. Their emergence should provide a welcome dilemna when Kevin Martin returns from injury in the near future.

Hi Rashidi, its ffaacc! ...

If that update has managed to complete teams we would prefer that you disect and do an in depth analyze of such completed teams first (ala LAL & NY) ... then the rest of the individual edits ...

We love the way you do that and also it would allow our PS3 fellows to have access to those edits ...

Happy christmass to you and your family !

Dude ... keep doing what you do man. Here's to hoping 2K gets their heads out of their ass and offers you a position to do what you do best.

Merry christmas to you and yours, thanks for always keeping this game up to date with your tireless effort.

Why can't I download this roster in 2k share? It says the file is not avaliable at this moment. I can access the officially one.

Rashidi said...

I'm not sure, but I just downloaded it without any problems.

Last week someone said they had a similar problem and they were able to download it after re-loading, so see if that works.

Rashidi said...

"back out of that menu entirely and then try again... it's screwy, but i had the same problem."

77 – James Harden

Seriously? Hes not even a starter, also he es a Rookie PPG 10.1...

Thats the same rating you have for Rudy Gay who average the double in points with 20.

So Harden is overrrated.

Unknown said...

Conti....

Besides Harden, great work.

Shelb said...

Have you adjusted QRich's 3pt shooting? He's pretty hot from long range this year...

Anonymous said...

Way to go Rashidi ... hoping to see your ndepth team reports !

Anonymous said...

yeah ! NJ & MIN (to see who the worst really is)

Anonymous said...

Nice work, we love your teams comments too

Rashidi said...

Harden is OKC's 6th man, and that 10 ppg is coming in only 22 mins.

Harden per 36 mins
16.1 pts
5.3 rebs
4.1 asts
1.6 stls
0.5 blks

He is much more well rounded than say...

O.J. Mayo per 36 mins
16.7 pts
3.7 rebs
2.7 asts
1.1 stls
0.3 blks

Rashidi said...

Q's 3pt rating is 86, which should be fine for a player shooting 42-98 (.429). Especially considering that he is bound to go down at some point.

Rashidi said...

Made the following changes to Harden and his overall dropped 1 pt.

Inside 65 (-3)
Close 68 (-6)
Med 71 (-3)
3pt 81 (-3)
FT 85 (+2)
Layup 78 (-3)
Pass 59 (-3)
Steal 78 (+5)
OffReb 47 (+4)
DefReb 47 (+4)

Unknown said...

Hes a great player but thats why im saying hes overrated i think that hes in the bunch of 74's.

I dont know hes average but the majority of his points come from drives getting to the paint, instead of jump shots.

81 3pt? Lol

Not even durant or westbrook deserves to be in the 80's from 3. Cause they are in the low 30%.

Is just my opinion, isnt that u have to made changes cause some fan think so.

Harden's hotspots

Inside: 41-94 (.436)
Inside Non-Dunk: 28-81 (.345)
Close: 4-9 (.444)
Medium: 13-36 (.361)
3pt: 31-86 (.360)

Take away Harden's dunks and he has been absolutely dreadful at the rim.

He's done most of his damage from 3pt range. Take away an 0-10 clunker against the Lakers and he's 31-76 (.407). He is without a doubt the top 3pt shooter on the team, though that says more about his teammates than it does him.

3pt per 36 mins
Harden: 1.7 of 4.7 (.360)
Durant: 1.2 of 3.9 (.312)
Green: 1.1 of 3.8 (.304)
Sefolosha: 0.8 of 2.2 (.352)
Westbrook: 0.7 of 2.5 (.282)

It's not even close, really.

I wrote this in your last roster update, but I don't think you saw it.

I definitely would like to see some more extensive editing done for Taj Gibson, at least with his mid range J. I think it's like, high 40's right now and that's just.. not right. He hits those shots on a consistent basis and even kept the Bulls in a few games with it when they were struggling.

Also, I think Rose should get a boost in off. clutch, considering the 4th quarters he's been putting together. A small boost, obviously, but still. Same with his def. clutch... we saw it last year with him in the playoffs and a little bit this year.

Rashidi said...

Gibson is 28-65 (.430) from mid-range this season. Thanks for the heads up.

Although, it should be noted he is also only 34-76 (.447) on non-dunk inside shots.

Suggested edits
68 Inside (-9)
77 Close (+5)
77 Med (+32)
53 FT (-13)
41 SOD (+10)
66 SIT (+10)
28 Pass (-3)
69 Block (-6)
53 Steal (-10)
84 OffReb (+2)
68 DefReb (+10)
50 OffAwr (+8)
45 Consistency (+20)

Result: 66 Overall (+2)

And thus we find ourselves asking what would be so hard for the 2K Insider to do this?

Rashidi said...

Also regarding Rose, he is averaging 37 pts per 48 mins in situations 82games determines to be clutch (4th quarter or overtime, less than 5 minutes left,
neither team ahead by more than 5 points).

I'll give him a 20 pt boost to each clutch category.

I posted this in your Knicks ratings post by accident:

McDyess or Blair start at C while Duncan still starts at PF.

Rashidi said...

I watched the Spurs against the Knicks tonight.

David Lee matched up with Duncan on both ends. Lee is NY's center at all times.

Al Harrington matched up with McDyess whenever he was on the floor.

Unknown said...

Im a rockets fan, but you may consider give Dave Andersen some defensive boost.

Also lower Ariza cause he continue to shoot TERRIBLE... im hoping for Adelman to reduce his minutes to raise T-Mac's minutes...

Alsoin side notes i dont like the discrepancies between...

95 – Chris Paul (+1)
89 – Deron Williams (0)

Chris could be better but not by that much, maybe cause Paul is by far a better defensive player than Williams, thats where the +6 happens.

And also this....

POWER FORWARDS 61/94
87 – Chris Bosh (0)
86 – Pau Gasol (0) (LW: +2)
86 – Kevin Garnett (-1)
84 – Dirk Nowitzki (+1)
84 – Josh Smith (+2) (LW: +1)
83 – Carlos Boozer (-2)
81 – Amare Stoudemire (-1)

Right now its clearly that the best PF is Bosh and then very close Dirk, followed then by Amare. Then Boozer And that P.Gasol is playing better than both Garnett And J.Howard. Not only this season but last year also, that was the same order by stats. I believe a better order will be...

Chris Bosh 87
Dirk Nowitzki 87
Amare Stoudemire 85
Pau Gasol 84
Carlos Boozer 84
Josh Howard 82
Kevin Garnett 82

Or something like that... i believe that KG is being rated by his fame instead by his production lately... hes now longer young and hes not as aggressive... hes now and occasional Post player with some spot up jump shots created by Pierce, he is one of the best defensive players in the paint, but the rebounds are decreasing yearly.

Give me your thoughts Rashidi :D

Rashidi said...

I have noticed that about Ariza.

Inside: 90-181 (.497)
Non-Dunk: 59-150 (.393)
Close: 6-42 (.142)
Mid: 25-72 (.347)
3pt: 59-185 (.319)

New ratings
71 Inside (-5)
52 Close (-5)
68 Mid (-2)
78 3pt (-2) (at least he's hitting 2 per game)
66 FT (-2)

Drops him to 76 overall (-1)

Rashidi said...

Paul holds the edge in every single category except blocks (they are tied).

Paul's A/T ratio is much better, and is twice as effective at stealing the ball. He led the league in both categories for two straight years which makes him the only player in NBA history to do that. He'd be leading again this year too if he didn't get off to a slow start in steals, and if Nash weren't in the middle of his best assist season ever (though he is faltering a bit and will likely give it back to Paul).

It's also lost on a lot of people just how good a scorer Chris Paul is. He is posting incredible shooting percentages, yet is only assisted on 10% of his shots, which is fewest in the league along with Nash.

Paul posted a 30 PER last season, something only about 15 players have ever done in league history (LeBron and Wade also did it last season, marking the first time in NBA history multiple players have finished with 30 PER). I believe he is also the first PG to ever accomplish this feat.

This season he is 3rd in the league in PER behind LeBron (30.0) and Duncan (28.4 - how about the resurgent season he's having! i want to smack every commentator that implies he is regressing when he is in the middle of one of his best seasons ever).

Yeah CP3 seems to dominate those categories for a long time.

Thanks for the edit to Ariza.

What about the rest?

Regarding the PFs I will have Gasol tied with Bosh this week. IMO Gasol is probably even better than Bosh and has the best post game in the NBA right now.

Garnett is a franchise defensive player, and the Celtics rank 1st in defense this season and always have since they picked him up.

Also, it is impossible to get Dirk's rating that high due to the flawed overall ratings for big men. The reason players like Dirk, Lewis, Bargnani, Frye, Radmanovic, etc rank so low is because the game barely counts ratings like 3pt and ball handling towards overall. A PF or C could have 99 in 3pt or 99 in ball handling and each rating would only boost overall by 1 point. There is obviously a problem with that in a league where the "stretch 4" is being used more and more.

Yeah another thing that need attention is the Dunk rating.

Is clearly that almost the 90 or 95 % of the players can Dunk. But they dont attemp or are simple dunks.

2k need to fix 2 things.

Dunks in traffic and dunk styles.

Hi Rashidi,
I have no internet access right now to access nba 2kshare to download your update, but my favorite team is the Kings. Do you think you can post the update individually for tyreke evans, omri casspi and donte greene?

Rashidi said...

Wright and Andersen will get touchups in the next update.

Rashidi said...

I will also post the Kings soon.

hi Rashidi; I think Hollins (56) y Wilkins (61) and Blatche (63)are underrated; do you think?

Rashidi said...

yes to all of the above

Rashidi- do you think you will give a team update like you have done in year's past? Just how much of each team is completed.

Also, do you think you could post your changes for JJ Redick? Thanks!

Well it seems that the raise of P.Gasol is the downfall of Andrew Bynum, despite having great % from FG his numbers keep getting down you probably want to give Bynum some "-".

Also Yi Jianlian is underrated.

Kevin Durant & Zack Randolph are putting MONSTERS numbers lately, deserving a boost.

Keep and eye on these 3 SF, as their numbers keep lowering with them struggling with their new roles, Butler adjusting to now being the 3rd offensive option, Artest playing under TOTAL CONTROL of Coach and Kobe and J.Howard coming of the Bench.

I had already assumed Bynum's increased numbers were due to Gasol's absence. Unlike a lot of Laker fans, I have not been quick to jump on the Bynum bandwagon. He's still young, and still has a bright future if healthy, but he is definitely not an all-star player this season as many were touting him early.

I'll get a good look at Yi tonight as the Nets play the Knicks. I expect him to get most of Josh Boone's minutes tonight.

I've already lowered all three of those SFs btw.

Yi Jianlian did a great job tonight shooting well the ball, scoring 22 PTS with 2 Block Shots.

He has started 7 of the 8 games at PF and since they shortened the rotation he played some minutes at Center, it was interesting.

Side note, Brook Lopez keeps playing at a High Level!!!

Which second year Center has impressed you most so far? Lopez or Gasol?

Notque said...

Hibbert should be higher. Why isn't he getting as many blocks in a season when simming?

Rashidi said...

Hibbert only plays about half the game.

Rashidi said...

Also I'm more impressed with Lopez because he's had to carry the team on his back with all the injuries. He was the main focus of the defense every night but it never seemed to affect his play all that much.

The Nets also played good defense under Lawrence Frank, while defense is still the Grizzlies' weakness with Gasol anchoring their middle.
