NOTICE TO ALL USERS
It has come to my attention that the most downloaded file on XBox360 2K Share (The Official 2K11 Roster, by user I3aSkEtCaSe) used my final 2010 update for his "2K11" roster and is claiming it to be official. I would appreciate it if all of my readers would rate his file "1 star", as not only is the file just a plagiarized, outdated version of mine with poorly rated 2K Share rookies added in, but it is obviously nowhere close to being "Official". It just isn't ethically right.

Although, it does amuse me that the most downloaded file on 2K Share is just an outdated version of my own roster. Do the community a favor and spread the word - my roster is infinitely more updated than this plagiarized piece of crap.

(How many downloads would I have if I claimed my roster was "Official"?)

THOUGHTS ON SYNERGIZED TEAMS

MIAMI HEAT
People keep asking why they are rated so high. They have two of the NBA's top 5 players. Teams with two players on the All-NBA First Team are really, really good. For reference, see Jordan/Pippen and Shaq/Kobe. Toss in that they have a third all-star in Chris Bosh, I mean, how aren't they supposed to be rated higher than LA? It's not like Kobe is playing with a second player who is just as good as he is AND Pau Gasol.

BOSTON CELTICS
Two simple questions:
Who would you rather have?
A. Shaquille O'Neal and Jermaine O'Neal or Kendrick Perkins and Rasheed Wallace?
B. Shaquille O'Neal and Jermaine O'Neal or Matt Barnes and Theo Ratliff?
Given the relative ease in which these questions can be answered, it's clear that the Celtics' off-season has completely flown under the radar. They made major improvements to their weakest position. When Rondo/Allen/Pierce/KG/Shaq take the court the Celtics will boast a lineup of five future Hall of Famers (yes I know it's a bit early on Rondo, but he's probable so long as he keeps up his level of play). This is a bigger deal than the 2004 Lakers since these guys all fit the system (Gary Payton never did), and have years of chemistry from the Big Four (while Lakers were at the pinnacle of Shaq/Kobe feud).

LOS ANGELES LAKERS
Yeah, they're the champs. They also haven't done as much as other teams. Replacing Jordan Farmar, Josh Powell, and DJ Mbenga with Steve Blake, Matt Barnes, and Theo Ratliff doesn't exactly constitute a successful off-season. Barnes is a nice pickup given the low cost, but he isn't doing much more than taking the scrap minutes that were given to Luke Walton and Sasha Vujacic.

DENVER NUGGETS
It's a shame the Nuggets are about to break up the team and trade Carmelo Anthony, because Al Harrington would have brought the team the front-court depth it desperately needed last season. Then again, Denver's problem over the last few years is that while they are incredibly talented, they have great difficulty staying healthy or unsuspended. Their window hasn't shut entirely, but it will be once Melo officially demands a trade.

ORLANDO MAGIC
If you want to talk about disappointing offseasons, the only significant move the Magic made was swapping out Barnes for Q-Rich, which is ultimately a sideways move. Given that they struggled mightily against a Boston team that reloaded, not to mention the unification of the super friends, it's difficult to envision a trip to the NBA Finals.

OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
The best young core in the league is quickly coming into it's own... OKC has an excellent defensive squad, but who will step up to be the legit second scorer Durant needs to push this team over the top?

UTAH JAZZ
Al Jefferson could be a better fit than Boozer, as his shotblocking will play better next to Paul Millsap, and the team may have improved defensively... but they are incredibly thin on the bench and aren't exactly the most durable bunch around. If everyone stays healthy, this season will go very smoothly, but if not...

SAN ANTONIO SPURS
The Spurs had an interesting playoffs; they beat down on a 2nd seed Mavs team but were swept by a 3rd seed Suns team. Fortunately with Amare gone, the Suns aren't much of a threat anymore. What the Spurs did on their part to secure their place among the west's elite was get a lot younger this season - they've brought in #1 international prospect Tiago Splitter to (ideally) replace aging Antonio McDyess in the starting lineup, and also drafted James Anderson and signed Gary Neal to replace middling veterans Keith Bogans and Roger Mason.

ATLANTA HAWKS
While we're on the topic of sideways moves, signing Joe Johnson to the max really isn't insuring this team anything more than an annual fourth seed. There's still some upside potential with Al Horford, but this team has reached it's peak about two seasons too late.

PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS
There's a solid young core in Portland that is going to continue to get better. All they need to do this season is stay healthy (particularly Greg Oden, who is entering his contract year). There's some uncertainty at PG as Jerryd Bayless looks to overtake the aging Andre Miller (who is 34 and has a 2012 Team Option).

HOUSTON ROCKETS

NEW ORLEANS HORNETS
As with past seasons, the health of Chris Paul will determine whether or not the Hornets make the playoffs in the tough western conference. They've balanced the roster by swapping backup PG Darren Collison for SF Trevor Ariza (effectively demoting massively declined Peja Stojakovic to the bench).

CHICAGO BULLS
With Carlos Boozer, the Bulls have finally found the post presence they've been searching for ever since they foolishly traded Elton Brand. However, the Bulls still need shooters to spread the floor if they want to fully capitalize on Boozer and Derrick Rose's talents. The Bulls will be improved, but won't be true contenders until that happens. They were willing to offer 3 years and 20 million to J.J. Redick (matched by Orlando), but weren't willing to offer Ben Gordon 5 years 50 million? That may come back to haunt them.

MILWAUKEE BUCKS
The Bucks made great strides last season with Andrew Bogut finally showing why he was a #1 pick, Brandon Jennings proving all his doubters wrong, a resurgent John Salmons leading the playoff push, and a host of relative unknowns coming together to form the perfect team chemistry and a very tough defense. And now that they've signed two offensive minded non-defenders, I fear they've gone and ruined it. Milwaukee needed better talent to get to the next level, but Corey Maggette and Drew Gooden are going be coach Scott Skiles' biggest test ever.

DALLAS MAVERICKS
The Mavericks were widely thought to be a team capable of ousting the Lakers last season, but were quickly exposed in the playoffs by a 7th seed Spurs team. They are roughly the same team as last season (Tyson Chandler replacing Erick Dampier), although Chandler has been drawing rave reviews playing for Team USA and may have (finally) returned to his New Orleans form. The team could trade Caron Butler (expiring contract) during the season as he wasn't the world's greatest fit when acquired at the deadline.

NEW YORK KNICKS
They cleared a bunch of cap room to sign the second best player on the D'Antoni Suns that never went to the Finals. Clearly there is still work to be done in NY, but they should at least contend for a low level playoff spot this season.

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES
The Grizzlies made no major moves this summer aside from giving Rudy Gay an unwarranted max contract (say hello to mediocrity and the lottery for the next 5 years). A fully healthy Grizzlies core wasn't good enough to make the playoffs last season, and Tony Allen isn't going to make the difference in that area. Expect a mid-season trade involving Zach Randolph (expiring contract) to a contending team once the Grizzlies realize it's best case scenario is the right to lose to LA in the first round.

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS
The Sixers were a terrible defensive team under coach Eddie Jordan, but that should change with Doug Collins taking over. Last time Collins coached, the Pistons drafted a guy named Grant Hill. Between draftee Evan Turner and Andre Iguodala, Collins certainly has similar players to play around with. They should make the playoffs this season, although there could be quite a few trades along the way.

INDIANA PACERS
The Pacers were a bit underrated last season due to injuries they suffered, but came on strong towards the end of the year. They should be a sleeper team this season with Darren Collison running the helm.

WASHINGTON WIZARDS
The Wiz will be much improved with not only the addition of #1 pick John Wall, but also Gilbert Arenas' return from suspension. Wall should compliment Arenas extremely well, as Arenas' knee injuries and scoring mentality ultimately prevent him from being an effective lead PG going forward. Presuming the team stays drama free, they should contend for a playoff spot this season.

LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS
Blake Griffin will hopefully stay healthy this season, but aside from his return, the Clippers haven't done much this offseason. Their free agent acquisitions (Randy Foye and Ryan Gomes) are poor defenders, and that was the team's biggest weakness this past season. They're not making moves like a team that wants to make the playoffs in the deep western conference.

DETROIT PISTONS

SACRAMENTO KINGS
They certainly shored up their center position by drafting DeMarcus Cousins and Hassan Whiteside, while also trading for Samuel Dalembert. What the Kings really need now is time to let their young core grow together. They don't have a single 30+ year old on the roster.

PHOENIX SUNS
They didn't re-sign Amare Stoudemire, essentially replacing him with Josh Childress and Hakim Warrick. These aren't bad moves for the future, as Childress is certainly the long-term replacement for 38 year old Grant Hill, but it's not likely to generate many wins this season barring vast improvement from another player on the roster (my money's on Robin Lopez, btw). They won't be good enough for a playoff spot, but they should still be better than most teams in the east.

CHARLOTTE BOBCATS
The Bobcats are coming off the first ever playoff appearance, but will be hard-pressed to repeat that performance. They have a decent shot if their team stays healthy (particularly Tyrus Thomas, who was acquired at the deadline and is expected to play a bigger role this season). Shaun Livingston ran the pick and roll very efficiently during his brief time in Washington, and this could finally be his breakout season playing for coach Larry Brown. If he goes down, however, the Bobcats will be in scatter-mode looking for a PG to save their season.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS
By adding 2010 all-star David Lee, the Warriors instantly get a versatile offensive presence they haven't seen in the front-court since Chris Webber. But more importantly, the league's most injured team brought in one of the league's most durable players. The Warriors still won't play much defense, and aren't very talented beyond their top three, but they will still be a fun offensive team capable of putting up big numbers on a lot of nights. Synergy showed Stephen Curry was the 2nd best spot-up shooter in the league (behind Kyle Korver), while David Lee was 8th best finishing the pick and roll.

NEW JERSEY NETS
The Nets have come a long way since their 12 win season. They drafted Derrick Favors, replaced the old bench legs with younger legs. But perhaps most importantly, they will be starting Troy Murphy at PF instead of the incredibly inefficient Yi Jianlian. They may not make the playoffs, but they'll be significantly closer than they were last season.

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES
Trading Al Jefferson for draft picks is probably the best move David Kahn has made so far. Jefferson was a high usage player with poor efficiency, and is still recovering from a torn ACL. Kevin Love is likely the better player going forward and the trade freed up a starting role for him. The team still has a funky structure, and not much talent beyond Love, but they are getting better.

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS
Lost LeBron, lost Shaq, lost Big Z. Gained Joey Graham. Are you kidding me?

TORONTO RAPTORS
Take a 9th place east team, remove their best player, and what do you get? Not a 9th place east team, that much I assure you.

Which teams haven't been edited? just wondering?

Can U post them on here Rashidi?

Anonymous said...

Hey Rashidi, this is O_Town_Rulez from GameFAQs. Just to let you know I've been waiting for your newest rosters for like a month! Glad you finally released it! Just some critiques on it.

Chicago has NOT sign McGrady yet and according to sources they most likely won't be.
Chris Duhon on the Magic chose number 25.
J.J. Redick signed a 3 year/$19 Million deal not $20 Million.
Q-Rich WILL not be allowed to wear a headband on the Magic.

If I see more I'll let you know.

Anonymous said...

thanks for sharing rashidi

you said in a prior post you had sixers and wolves pretty much written up? the sixers didnt make any significat moves and youve posted turner, so can the rest of philly go up?

also, if anybody would care to write up a few teams or players im sure lots of folks would appreciate it.

Rashidi said...

Everything I've read indicates the Bulls will eventually sign McGrady. Honestly, they need him at this point, given how devoid the market is of 3pt shooters. It's tough to believe they gave away Hinrich while only adding Korver. A Rose/Brewer backcourt is way too easy to defend.

Rashidi said...

Also regarding Redick I used Hoopshype's salary figures since Sham's won't be up for awhile. I believe 3/20 was reported on rotoworld.

Upon review it seems they reported both figures.

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NBA&id=1264

The Bulls signed restricted free agent J.J. Redick to a 3-year, $20 million offer sheet on Friday.

Magic GM Otis Smith "anticipates" matching the three-year, $19 million offer sheet that J.J. Redick received from the Bulls.

So really it's anyone's guess until a more reputable source than hoopshype (Sham) posts the accurate salary data.

Rashidi said...

I've been going over jersey numbers and the like but haven't gotten up to the Magic yet. Additionally, Stanley Robinson and Daniel Orton's ratings are not final yet.

The Rockets are completely off... from contracts to positions to everything... Don't claim the best if you can't even get proper contracts... Brad Miller 5 mil a year... ummm no. 4.4, 4.75, 5.10... Scola's contract all u did with divide the total amount by 5?? come on now "Insider"...

They reported 3 year/$19 Million.

Thank you very much for the release!!

Rashidi said...

Rockets are one of the teams who aren't done yet.

I love it when people opt not to read.

Rashidi said...

Regardless about Redick, I have hoopshype's salary figures and will use them until a better source (Sham) comes forward.

The media isn't always right about these things.

Rashidi said...

This, by the way, is why I didn't want to release an incomplete roster.

I think some people dL ur rosters just to try to find flaws.
as for me i totally appreciate this thanks alot rashidi.

Anonymous said...

why do you shit on kobe? he won the finals!! like how can u say d wade is better...ridiculous. u have to atleast make kobes intangibles better than the entire leagues...his wisdom shud make his rating exceed everyones.

Anonymous said...

Much respect! Don't be bummed out by all the haters.

Rashidi said...

Kobe is the 4th highest rated player in the entire league, and his rating far exceeds others with similar production (see Roy, Brandon). How am I hating on him?

Anonymous said...

I was that last anonymous comment. I meant you, Rashidi, shouldn't be discouraged by people hating on you. Not sure if it looked like I was talking to the guy above me talking about Kobe. I'm glad you put out the roster and don't get why people would rag on you for providing a free service!

Yo, od361 from Gamefaqs.

I think this is completely appropriate.

As a huge NCAA fan, I am a little disappointed with some of the rookies, specially Avery Bradley.

He is a better mid range shooter than 3pt, despite that he is rated 71 mid range and 79 3pt.

Only a 55 in dunks? Come on, just check some of his videos in youtube and tell me that he can't dunk the ball.

And the worst thing : 61 defensive awareness ??????? He is by far the BEST perimeter defender from the entire draft.

Disappointed...

Unknown said...

I know that they are not yet complete, but great work so far!! Thank you.

od361 said...

Yeah. I was wondering about dunk ratings, too. John Wall is only a 75, and I think Russell Westbrook is a 72. Can you explain that?

Anonymous said...

Hey Rashidi, just a quick update. ESPN reported that Quentin Richardson's contract was a 3 year $7.5 Million deal.

Also Duhon's deal is for 4 years $15 Million. You have it for 4 years $14.32 Million.

profizzle99 said...

I cant believe the people criticizing Rashidi's roster update. Right now there is nothing better on 2k Share let alone 2k itself. You cant really judge his rookie rankings because they haven't preformed in the NBA; who knows how their games will translate. Just about all there is to work off of is college performance but more importantly the Summer League. As I recall Jodie Meeks had an 85 3-Point rating at the initial 2k10 roster, look how that panned out. Save your complaining, I appreciate these rosters and cant wait to download them.

Anonymous said...

Is just common sense, if 90% of the scouts say avery bradley is probably the best perimeter defender from the draft, why should he have a 61 def awareness rating, and another guy like James Anderson is rated 70?

Anyways the roster is the best out there so props to Rashidi.

Is just that I don't understand thinks like this

Rashidi said...

Avery Bradley is nothing more than a spot up shooter, and those players are typically better from 3pt than mid-range in the NBA.

Also, Bradley is 73 Med, not 71. If you're going to critique, please get the numbers right. Bradley is rated a mere 3 points less than Paul Pierce from mid-range. Talk about a snub!

Med ratings of average starter
PG: 77
SG: 76
SF: 74
PF: 74
C: 60

Rashidi said...

Bradley was an 11 point scorer at the NCAA level. He is only 19 years old. He is FAR from a finished product (much less anything close to a star). I'll give his defense a boost because from re-reading his DX profile I sold his defense a little short.

+1 Ovr
+2 Med
+2 BallDef
+5 DefAwr

Rashidi said...

Finally about the dunk ratings, players don't need high dunk ratings to dunk. Most dunks come on the fast break. Even Kobe, for all the shots he takes, doesn't even dunk once a game. Players don't dunk on each other left and right in real life.

John Wall is a good dunker for a PG, but he is far from prime Vince Carter.

Rashidi said...

James Anderson has not been edited, his ratings are mostly from the 2K Share CAP i downloaded. He will likely be 65-67 when I get to him.

Rashidi said...

Quick reminder for the populace

Average Starter Overall
PG: 76
SG: 75
SF: 74
PF: 75
C: 74

The only above average rookies (Read: NBA Ready) are Evan Turner (ROY favorite) and Blake Griffin (last year's #1).

Anonymous said...

Could you find someone to upload your rosters for PS3? I really want to use your rosters.

KidKoby88 said...

Can i download these on 2k9??

od361 said...

I just put Wall's dunks up to 80, and I'll put Westbrook up to 75. Not that big of a deal.

Anonymous said...

Hey Rashidi i dont think nba bound25 was usin u or ur ratings he was jus tryna help out cuz u hadnt posted anything lately n he liked ur posts as well as we did actually he helped cuz he used ur last roster ratings from da playoffs n fixed da gear n added more rookies n the new allstar teams as well as trades dat happened number changes n contracts so it wasnt dat he was usin ur name he was jus tryna help out so u guys should team up cuz its not about 1 persons rosters its wat da ppl like n want n download da most

Rashidi said...

My brother is finally getting a PS3 this weekend, so I'll likely make my own roster file at some point.

Anonymous said...

Hey Rashidi, love your stuff. I never picked up 2k10 on the advice from some friends that it wasn't as good as 2k9, but now I'm kinda regretting that decision. I figure everybody kind of overreacted to the new rating system. So while I'm trying to wait out the couple months til 2k11 I was wondering if you could throw up a couple of John Wall's ratings in the 2k9 rating format. I feel a little lost with the newer rating system.

Sam said...

Will you be doing 360 or ps3 primarily next year? great roster btw

Anonymous said...

When will all the ages be complete Rashidi? Because I want to use your roster in a fantasy draft. If you tell me the teams you haven't done I can update the ages by myself.

Anonymous said...

"Is just common sense, if 90% of the scouts say avery bradley is probably the best perimeter defender from the draft, why should he have a 61 def awareness rating, and another guy like James Anderson is rated 70?"

- yeah, we all know 90% of scouts always get it right. Right like the time they said about Kwame Brown's work ethic. Right about Darko Milicic being the next Dirk Nowitzki but with D in his game. Right about Nikoloz Tsktishvili being the next time big time player from Europe and even better than Dirk Nowitzki.

90%, you can't go wrong with the rest of the majority right?

Rashidi said...

I should have most of the ages/contracts done by Friday.

other then that great rosters bro keep up your great work for 2k11 :}

Shelb said...

Just a heads up, not sure if you've gotten to the Rockets but I played with the Bulls against them and Yao got one FG attempt; a put back dunk. Didn't get the ball a single time from teammates and barely played.

I'm assuming you just have him left out of the loop because there's no way to work him into the rotation with seeing it until this coming year.

Also, Watson on the Bulls wears 23. I don't see him wearing that number, for obvious reasons.

Also, one of the Graham twins is older than the other.

Great updates so far. Keep up the good work and take your time, forget these ungrateful bastards asking for everything all the time.

Rashidi said...

One possibility w/ the Rockets is they became a 3pt team without Yao and that should be reflected in the coach sliders. Yao likely won't be in all-star form anyway once he's back. I'll run a sim with them to see how they behave - slightly worth noting I haven't edited most Rocket tendencies yet.

Rashidi said...

I still don't know what Watson's new # will be - leaving it at 23 reminds me that I don't have the new # yet.

BJ Mullens is one of the few players I haven't edited yet. There are 8 players under contract that I have yet to edit, and he's one of them.

Portland said...

Yea rashidi like that other guy said when will you be done with player ages/years pro??

Rashidi said...

I updated the Kings/Nuggets today.

There are currently only 4 teams without updated age/contracts.

Monday is the earliest I can take care of that.

My brother did just get a ps3 but I have no idea about a roster yet.

@magicfan4life

were you reading his past post?

"My brother is finally getting a PS3 this weekend, so I'll likely make my own roster file at some point."

i was just asking nicely. and besides, if he didn't post that i wouldn't have asked.

Rashidi said...

With today's update there are now only two teams without updated ages & contracts. I'll try to bang out the rest by tomorrow.

Sam said...

Thank you rashidi. I really appreciate all the work you put into creating the best, most detailed roster. Once again bar none.

od361 said...

I just noticed that you have Jason Terry as a SG/SF... why? Ugh, it creates all sorts of matchup problems on defense.

Anonymous said...

can someone post the miami heat individual player ratings? thank you

Rashidi said...

Terry logged 7% of the Mavericks SF minutes.

From his top 20 lineups
Barea-Kidd-Terry-Nowitzki-Gooden (10th)
Barea-Kidd-Terry-Nowitzki-Dampier (12th)
Barea-Kidd-Terry-Marion-Nowitzki (16th)

Rashidi said...

I'm sure Kidd is guarding the SF in some of these lineups (as I recall him guarding Richard Jefferson in a game against the Spurs), but Terry also logged SF time in 2009. It is usually against a SF who plays smaller than he is like Kyle Korver.

Rashidi said...

Mavs SFs as per 82games
43% Marion
18% Howard (TRADED)
15% Butler
7% Terry
6% Ross (TRADED)
3% Stevenson
1% Thomas
1% Carroll
1% Singleton (TRADED)

Terry was more or less the 3rd string SF.

It's probable that the bulk of his SF time came before the Caron Butler trade, when Josh Howard was dealing with injuries.

Under that presumption, I don't mind removing it from his secondary position since he'd be unlikely to log time there with a full season of Marion/Butler.

On s'en fout de tes remarques à la con. A quand les stats définitifs des équipes restantes ?

Rashidi said...

If anyone can run that through a translator (I'm mobile atm) it'd be appreciated.

I only have one more team to update ages & contracts for.

Anonymous said...

The best I can manage is "They do it of your comments in bloody idiot. In when the final stats of the remaining teams?"

So I don't think you were missing much :)

Rashidi said...

Thanks.

All players on NBA teams now have updated age/contracts.

All free agents who were on a team at the end of the year should also have updated ages, for what its worth.

Anonymous said...

how are the ratings coming along? are you finished with the rookies?

Anonymous said...

Yes his roster has all rookies and is the best original roster on the market today.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I am aware that his roster "has all the rookies", thanks but that wasn't my question. He mentioned before he was not finished with the ratings and that the rookies were not final edits. I was asking if he was finished now.

BullsFan228 said...

Rashidi, I think you severely overrate LeBron's defensive ability, including his steals and onball ratings. Also, on the offensive end, where I believe his SOD, 3pt shooting and midrange are incorrect.

You currently have LeBron rated as a better mid-range shooter than the entire Kings and Knicks rosters aside from Udrih and Amar'e, Danny Granger, Luol Deng and most notably, Paul Pierce and Melo. Also, he's rated just as high as Kevin Durant.

You currently have LeBron with a higher SOD rating than Paul Pierce, Kevin Durant, Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry and most notably, Kobe Bryant.

Onto 3pt ratings. He's higher than Yi, Josh Howard, Luol Deng, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Radmanovic. He's also rated just as high as Kobe Bryant, Sasha Vujacic, Tayshaun Prince, Brandon Roy and Raymond Felton. LeBron only shot 33% from deep, and is a career 33% shooter from deep, while the players listed above either had a higher % last season or for their career.

On blocks and steals, LeBron averaged less than one block per 36 minutes and only 1.5 steals per 36. 51 on block and 80 on steals look more like an effort to make sure he makes the All-Defensive team in the Assosciation.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I just don't like to see the superstars completely overrated like LeBron is at the moment.

Also, I was wondering how you determined the players onball defensive ability.

Sofa King said...

I agree with bullsfan228 on LBJ's attributes.

also Rashidi, I'm curious to what Sliders you use & what your foul settings are on.

Anonymous said...

Rashidi has been a LeBron cock hugger for a long time.

Notable examples are ignoring his stat-padding (i.e not factoring them in his ratings), and the reason why the Cavs lost to Boston was because Lebron's elbow WAS ACTUALLY HURTING.

Rashidi said...

Bullsfan228,

LeBron has been the NBA's undisputed MVP over the last two seasons. He takes a 30 win team and turns them into a 60+ win team.

Regarding his defense, he has been All-Defense First team the last two seasons, and the Cavaliers are consistently an elite defensive team.

His steals rating is exactly where a player with his steals rate should be, and he was pretty much the best on ball defender on the Cavaliers.

You provide no basis for thinking he's overrated in SOD, Mid, and 3pt aside from tossing names out there.

Rashidi said...

Mid-Range
LeBron: 159-400 (.398)
Pierce: 59-148 (.398)
Deng: 167-427 (.391)

Pierce has a significantly smaller sample size, and that plays into rating.

Regarding Melo, Granger, and Durant, I have not finalized ratings for the Nuggets or Pacers yet, but for completions sake, here were thier mid-range stats.

Melo: 175-425 (.402)
Granger: 77-209 (.368)
Durant: 148-347 (.382)

Clearly you've underestimated LeBron's mid-range ability, as the only one who should have a better rating is Melo (and only by a point).

Rashidi said...

Regarding SOD, LeBron gets most of his offense off the dribble. The Cavs offense is literally give the ball to Lebron and clear out so he can Isolate. Is he supposed to have a poor SOD rating or something?

It seems very odd to me that you'd throw a guy like Pierce into your mix which is why I think you're just tossing names out. Pierce is really just a catch/shoot guy nowadays (his mid-range game has evaporated).

Rashidi said...

On to 3pt ratings

Yi, Josh Howard, Luol Deng, Mike Dunleavy Jr, and Radmanovic. Are you kidding me? None of those players is even known as a 3pt shooter except Radmanovic and he shot a pathetic 28% this season.

LeBron was 129-387 from deep last season. I could care less if Luol Deng shot 32-83 on wide-open set shots. If Deng were taking the 3pt shots that LeBron were his % would be significantly lower. Ditto for Yi "15-41" Jianlian. You're comparing players who don't even average a three a game to a player who attempts five per game.

Finally, regarding steals and blocks, per minute is a poor tool since it isn't pace adjusted. LeBron is rated EXACTLY where players with similar steal/block rates are rated.

Check the block rating of Dirk Nowitzki. He has the same exact pace-adjusted block rate and the same exact block rating. Plus, you're acting like a 51 is a high rating or something. It's 26 points above the minimum rating and 48 points below the maximum rating. Do you think LeBron should only be 10 points above the minimum rating or something? Most people probably think I've underrated him if anything.

Rashidi said...

If you see a player with an attack/passout that doesn't add up to 100, it means I haven't finalized that player yet.

BullsFan228 said...

Fair enough. But what of his 3-pt rating? I may have been talking out of my ass regarding SOD and mid-range, but this is a bit easier to judge. Also, what about his block rating?

Also, I realize he's the best on-ball defender on the Cavs, but that doesn't mean it isn't overrated. But, I was hoping you would tell me your way of rating player's on-ball D. I'm curious because I'm hoping to make some rosters of my own, mainly back in the early-to-mid 2000's.

BullsFan228 said...

Oops, I spoke too soon. My bad. Disregard my previous comment.

BullsFan228 said...

Alright, but you're leaving out Kobe Bryant, Sasha Vujacic, Tayshaun Prince, Brandon Roy and Raymond Felton. Either you have Lebron overrated in 3's, or you have Prince underrated.

Anonymous said...

Prince underrated?
He barely averaged a three per game and only attempted less than 2 attempts per game.

Prince:
3PM per game - 0.6
3PA per game - 1.5
3P% - 37

Lebron:
3PM per game - 1.7
3PA per game - 5.1
3P% - 33

3P% shouldn't be the only basis in considering the 3pt attribute, you also have to consider if that player consistently shoots behind the arc (3PM & 3PA) as opposed to someone who only shoots it occasionally.

Stop commenting out of your ass and learn to see the stats first. Here's a site that will you a good start:

http://www.basketball-reference.com/

And for Kobe and Roy:

Kobe:
3PM per game - 1.4
3PA per game - 4.1
3P% - 32.9

Roy:
3PM per game - 1.1
3PA per game - 3.4
3P% - 33

All of which are pretty close to LeBron's "over-rated" production.

Bogans signed with chicago an hour after I left my house (I put tmac back on bulls after mason signed with NY).

Bogans is probably the better fit than tmac given his normally decent 3pt shooting, but I'm still trying to figure out where ronnie brewer fits on a perimeter with Rose and Deng. Surely TT knows the 3pt shot is needed to have a quality offense... and thus Bogans might actually start.

LeBron's defense according to Synergy

Isolation: 0.6 PPP (Ranked 5th in NBA).

He was pretty average at everything else which lead to: 0.84 PPP allowed (ranked 61st in the NBA).

He is CLEARLY deserving of a high On Ball rating.

do you realize that your ratings/tendencies after a year increase and decrease based on age, potential. (via patch)
within a year or two your ratings are not the same. (even kobe's FINAL SOD) WILL CHANGE.
ITS IRRELEVANT.
and everyone wanting to take this game and have everyone's age correct. do you guys not realize that the game can not tell that a player like steve nash and jason kidd have performed well at higher ages. they will all retire sooner then later. this is with player roles off and team chemistry off.
sucks but true

Rashidi said...

I've been saying for a long time that progression in this game is pre-determined and actually has nothing to do with potential ratings.

Progression is pre-programmed into each individual player, which is why CAPs don't improve in rating over the years - a created player has no pre-determined boosts.

Of course, the number of people who actually finish 82 game seasons is small in number. I don't think there is much use to 2K associations beyond the first year or two for the reasons you listed, and wouldn't recommend progressing that far in an association with any roster file.

I often wonder whether or not Oden's detractors have ever even seen him play a game. His rebounding and shotblocking is Dwight Howard level.

Shelb said...

Raptors traded Underachieving Scrub #1 to New Orleans for Underachieving Scrub #2 today, also.

Anonymous said...

So the 4 team trade was finalized already? I thought it was still a rumor...I wonder if this makes the Nets team better or worse

Anonymous said...

Hey rashidi quick question. When yoou edit players to not having a dunk package what type of dunks do they do if any, and what is the reasoning for this.

Rashidi said...

It's a great trade for the Nets.

Murphy is an upgrade over Kris Humphries and Favors will still get minutes (he was too young for a starting role to work).

Courtney Lee was terrible and it frees up PT for Williams and Morrow. Williams played well late in the season, while Morrow is an excellent shooter, something Jersey has badly needed.

Rashidi said...

I don't edit dunk packages, by the way. Players actually have their dunk packages hard coded into them anyway, it really only affects CAPs.

For example, only four players in the game can perform a 360 dunk. Whichever dunk package belongs to J-Rich is the one that can do it. I think the other two are Josh Smith, J.R. Smith, and I forget the 4th one. That means even if you give other players that dunk package they still won't be able to perform 360s.

What synergy sports changes about your rating ?

the grizzlies missed the playoffs in a year where the 7th seed quite well coulda been a 2 seed. in the western conference, thats how.
this is crazy, i thought they did well under a new coach in his first year. -shrug-
funny how u can talk up the nets getting troy murphy (golf clap) but just can't see any positives from .. other teams

a true analyst, you cannot tell where he/she is from regionally..ever

Rashidi said...

Of course the Nets improve by picking up Troy Murphy. They won 12 games last year. Listen to what you're writing!

Rashidi said...

The Grizzlies also made no moves to improve the roster. They are still the same core, as are the rest of the western playoff teams.

Meanwhile, there are three west teams that missed the playoffs and had star players miss significant time to injury: the Rockets (Yao), Hornets (CP3), Clippers (#1 pick Griffin). Not to mention teams like the Blazers and Warriors were among the most injured teams in NBA history this season.

If a fully healthy Grizzlies team can't make the playoffs when the rest of the west is befuddled with injuries, what's going to happen when they're healthy? Or worse, if the Grizzlies themselves are actually hit by injuries?

The Grizzlies had THREE players that played 3000+ minutes. Gay, Mayo, Randolph, and Conley combined to miss a whopping 5 games. Marc Gasol missed 13, which means the starters missed a grand total of 18 games all season and they still missed the playoffs. (Reference point: 35-34 w/ Gasol, 5-8 w/o).

Chris Paul alone missed 37 games (twice as many as the Grizz starters combined) for the 37 win Hornets. The Hornets were 23-22 w/ him and 14-23 w/o him. Do you really think a healthy Grizzlies team is BETTER than a healthy Hornets team?

When does the fact that the Grizzlies are not nearly as talented as they appear on paper come into play? Great, Mayo was a #3 pick two years ago, that means as much to me as Michael Beasley being a #2 pick in the same draft.

Mayo doesn't finish at the rim well, and consequently doesn't draw enough fouls. He's not good enough to run the point in summer league, much less a real NBA setting. That makes him an undersized shooting guard albeit one with solid shooting skills.

Does this sound like an all-star to anyone? Does this even sound any better than Ben Gordon, or even a 35 year old Ray Allen?

It's honestly a little tiring answering the same questions about the Grizzlies when they clearly haven't shown anything aside from flashes of mediocrity on the court.

Rashidi said...

Synergy is breaking down data into specific categories. You can see how good a player is at defending isolations, both ends of the P&R, spotups, postups, screens, etc.

And unlike 82games, you can view the video footage of each individual play, which gives the stats CONTEXTUAL backing to fall back on. Shutting down Nick Young is obviously not nearly as impressive as shutting down Kobe Bryant.

Rashidi said...

Anyone who wants to see the differences can just go to the Synergy website and view the demo version.

http://mysynergysports.com

82games does not aim to provide the same data is synergy, thus "better" is a relative term. they both have their own uses.

Simulated stats (CPU vs CPU)
Heat vs Magic (12 min qtrs, HoF difficulty)

HEAT (101)
Anthony: 8-1-4-1-2 (3-5 FG, 2-2 FT), 22 mins, 2 TO, 5 fouls
Bosh: 21-10-0-0-1 (10-12 FG, 1-2 FT), 39 mins, 0 TO, 0 fouls
James: 18-8-7-2-0 (7-16 FG, 4-4 FT), 38 mins, 3 TO, 0 fouls
Wade: 19-2-5-1-0 (8-17 FG, 0-2 3PT, 3-4 FT), 39 mins, 5 TO, 2 fouls
Chalmers: 2-1-2-3-1 (1-3 FG, 0-1 3PT), 34 mins, 3 TO, 3 fouls
BENCH
Miller: 10-2-2-1-0 (4-10 FG, 1-3 3PT, 1-1 FT), 23 mins, 1 TO, 1 foul
Haslem: 8-7-0-0-0 (3-5 FG, 2-2 FT), 18 mins, 0 TO, 0 fouls
Ilgauskas: 4-9-0-0-0 (1-4 FG, 2-2 FT), 16 mins, 0 TO, 3 fouls
Arroyo: 6-1-1-1-0 (3-3 FG), 13 mins, 0 TO, 0 fouls
House: 5-0-0-0-0 (2-2 FG, 1-1 3PT), 2 mins, 0 TO, 0 fouls

The Three Kings were collectively pretty average, combining for only 58-20-12 and 8 TO in 116 mins, which can be attributed to Orlando's tough defensive effort. LeBron and Wade were both held to sub .500 shooting, though Bosh balanced that out with a very efficient line. Miami had very solid production from the bench, highlighted by Haslem/Ilgauskas combining for 16 boards in limited minutes, Arroyo's perfect night (+19 on court), and even Eddie House dropping 5 points in only 2 minutes.

MAGIC (95)
Howard: 25-10-2-1-0 (10-16 FG, 5-10 FT), 35 mins, 0 TO, 0 fouls
Lewis: 14-10-0-1-0 (6-10 FG, 0-2 3PT, 2-2 FT), 37 mins, 4 TO, 2 fouls
Richardson: 11-3-3-4-0 (4-10 FG, 1-5 3PT, 2-3 FT), 32 mins, 2 TO, 2 fouls
Carter: 17-1-3-0-0 (8-15 FG, 1-2 3PT), 35 mins, 0 TO, 0 fouls
Nelson: 9-1-9-0-0 (4-10 FG, 1-3 3PT), 35 mins, 3 TO, 1 foul
BENCH
Pietrus: 6-1-1-0-0 (3-5 FG), 13 mins, 0 TO, 4 fouls
Redick: 8-1-0-2-0 (3-10 FG, 2-6 3PT), 18 mins, 1 TO, 0 fouls
Gortat: 1-5-0-2-0 (0-2 FG, 1-2 FT), 14 mins, 0 TO, 1 foul
Duhon: 0-0-4-0-0 (0-0 FG), 14 mins, 0 TO, 0 foul
Bass: 4-3-0-0-0 (2-3 FG), 12 mins, 1 TO, 0 fouls

Howard had a typical game aside from the lack of blocks/fouls (playing against Joel Anthony was certainly a factor). Four players had 10 FGA after Howard/Carter so Orlando's attack was certainly balanced. Pietrus obviously got in foul trouble guarding Wade/LeBron. All in all, this type of showing (nobody standing out) won't be enough to stop Miami during the regular season.

The main thing I take from this game (and 2K in general) is I still need (or at least WANT) to find a way to generate more fouls w/o slider tinkering. The three kings only combined for 10 FTA on 45 FGA, and while the Magic are good defensively, they're not THAT good. Both teams shot 17 FTA apiece and while that's a reasonable number compared to what you'd get on the 2K defaults, I'd have been much happier if there were at least 5 more FTA for each team. Orlando only had 10 fouls while Miami had only 14. There needs to be about 10 more per team so teams can actually get into the penalty and get some freebies instead of every FT being due to a shooting foul.

Part of the problem is 2K AI logic just refuses to fastbreak (where fouls often occur in real life). They too often go into half-court sets instead of pushing the ball when it would be very easy for a player to get a good layup attempt under a similar scenario. Orlando had 4 fastbreak points to Miami's 0. Even though both teams are defensive teams that look to secure the rebound rather than get out on the break, 0 FB points for a team w/ LeBron & Wade doesn't pass the eyeball test.

Rashidi said...

Speaking of the eyeball test, how did these players do on the court?

via Game Track (made shots)
Dwyane Wade: Wade did most of his scoring on drives to the basket. He missed most of the jumpers he took. All of his 8 FG came on Vince Carter who really couldn't keep up with him. Wade had 4 dunks, 2 layups, and 2 jumpers. I suppose a big reason he only attempted 4 FT is that VC wasn't able to keep up. However, that leaves it to Dwight Howard to rotate and make a block or foul. Howard made 3 attempts to block Wade's shot but was late on all of them and was never close enough to draw any physical contact. Howard wasn't involved in the rest of the plays is he was on the other side of the court defending the mid-range shooting Ilgauskas.

Mario Chalmers: As if getting burned by Wade weren't bad enough, Chalmers made VC look absolutely silly on a drive to the basket. Chalmers juked at the same time Carter tried to draw a charge, but was so late in sliding over that Chalmers was already in layup animation directly behind Carter by the time he finished moving. It's worth noting that I've actually improved Vince's On-Ball Defense 10 points from the defaults.

LeBron James: LeBron was contested on his shots much more than Wade, though it obviously didn't phase the MVP all that much. He did most of his damage against Rashard Lewis who just isn't quick enough to keep up w/ LeBron. One play that stood out was in the lineup w/ Chalmers/Wade/Miller/James/Bosh. James caught the ball on the left 3pt elbow, took Shard off the dribble, was met by a rotating Vince at the restricted area, and dunked over both of them. All told, LeBron had 2 dunks, 2 layups, and 3 jumpers.

Chris Bosh: As you'd expect from any PF playing next to superstar wing players, Bosh got most of his shots on spotup elbow/wing jumpers created by their penetration. He took Shard off the dribble for two Iso-Jumpers, and only one of his shots was a postup (a hook over Howard). All told, Bosh had 1 layup and 9 jumpers. Given how smooth his jumper was and the opposition waiting for him in the middle, it's hard to argue with him playing passively when it's getting results.

Haslem/Ilgauskas: Really the same deal as Bosh - waiting for kickouts to knock down some open jumpers.

Dwight Howard: Had a lot of dunks, but that also means he wasn't very good when he wasn't dunking. 5 dunks, 3 layups, 2 jumpers (post hooks). That means he was 5-11 on non-dunks. He had a very impressive pick/roll dunk with Q-Rich to start the game, but some of the other dunks are due to his standing dunk and feel a bit cheap given how easy it is for him to catch the ball in dunking position (I may have to lower it in the future).

Vince Carter: Scored in a variety of ways, usually contested. 2 dunks, 2 layups, 4 jumpers (two 3pt)

Rashard Lewis: Did some damage on the pick and roll, also robbed of a three due to his shooting animation (both feet started behind the line, 2K really needs to fix this crap). 5 layups, 1 jumper.

Mickael Pietrus: Also robbed of a wing three pointer.

J.J. Redick: Ditto - all of his made shots should have been threes. Orlando would have been 8-21 on threes without the shooting animation robbery as opposed to 5-18 (not including any missed attempts that should have counted as 3PA). It's so bad that finding animations where the player's feet slide backward is almost required if you want to get more realism going forward.

Rashidi can you post the finished teams on here? im using 2k10 pc.

Synergized the Hawks.

I'll now take requests for the next team to be synergized.

I would love to see a synergized comparition between: Rose and Westbrook; so please, do those 2 teams next.

Also I would like you to discuss the latest trade, from all teams perspective, as usual.

Anonymous said...

can you synergize the bulls?

Anonymous said...

I suggest you do Chicago for your next synergy project. I'm actually surprised you haven't yet. Looking forward to it.

Hornets, please. I'm ready to bring them back from mediocrity.

Pistons would be cool. Admittedly only for some of us, but it's hard to deny fanboyism.

Nets please.

Rashidi said...

Bulls have been updated.

Mike said...

Great work Rashidi. You definitely deserve to be paid to do this. I'm guessing you've already made attempts to be the 2K Insider for 2K Sports?

Anonymous said...

Rashidi, there have been talks about the Bulls possibly trading James Johnson and a 1st round pick for Rudy Fernandez OR Taj Gibson+the 1st for Rudy.

Assuming the 2nd one occurred, the Bulls may look at Louis Amundson to come and be the backup PF. Could you provide any analysis for +'s and -'s of the possibility?

Houston Rockets next please! I'm amazed you put so much time into these... A big "Yao Ming" sized thank you from your downloaders in Houston!

Rashidi said...

Hornets are updated. Running a sim against Dallas right now.

Rashidi said...

Dallas is destroying New Orleans right now. They're 10-10 from the field with some really impressive dunks that I think I'm going to upload to 2K Sports.

Haywood shook Okafor out of his boots on a crossover and threw it down with a clear lane. This one was a little odd because the defense was out of position (behind Haywood on the catch), recovered, but then got shook on a surprise move.

I have no idea why, but Okafor is watching Jason Kidd like he's Kobe Bryant. Haywood gets an easy power dunk as Kidd was essentially triple teamed on a pick and roll. (Ariza trying to get to Marion on the wing, and Okafor/CP3 both watching Kidd instead of switching to Haywood.

Okafor decides to semi-double Kidd coming up the floor at half court and the result is an easy dunk for Chandler before the offense and defense is even set. This is the type of stuff we saw from Chandler a few years ago before the injuries.

Ariza overplays Marion, who cuts to the basket for a dunk, and the foul.

On top of all that, Dallas is also 3-3 on threes.

Rashidi said...

Make that 14-14

Kidd just threw a full-court pass off a rebound to Caron Butler for a fastbreak dunk.

Anonymous said...

Will you synergize for 2k11??

P.S. please do the rockets next seems like my hometown team will be very balanced next year.

Rashidi said...

NO's defense came back in a big way, as at the end of the half Dallas is now 10-27 since their 14-14 start. NO started driving to the basket more instead of just launching threes, and they're 10-13 from the line.

Mini-Box through the half
Dirk: 13 pts 9 reb (5-5 FG), 15 mins
Haywood: 12 pts, 2 reb (6-7 FG), 15 mins
Kidd: 8 pts, 2 reb, 10 ast (3-5 FG, 2-4 3PT), 19 mins

Ariza: 10 pts (4-8 FG, 1-3 3PT, 1-1 FT), 19 mins
Paul: 9 pts, 5 ast, 2 stl (4-9 FG, 0-3 3PT, 1-2 FT), 20 mins

Excellent roster.. just needed to change a few jersey # but thats not a problem.. can you synergize the warriors next?

Rashidi said...

Synergized the Jazz.

Rashidi said...

This is why Synergy is so exciting to me, by the way. My ratings were compiled using all the other sources and I still had issues with them (Utah only ranking 9th among west teams). Using Synergy, they jumped all the way up to 2nd. They may well be the 2nd best west team given that Amare Stoudemire left Phoenix for NY, and that Dallas choked in the first round again.

I can't wait until all of the teams get Synergized! Once that happens I'm starting a fantasy draft season! So HURRY UP RASHIDI!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

keep up the good work rashidi! your roster is getting better by the day, also which team r u doing next, i got curious lol

Rashidi said...

Awesome stats, wish I could have seen Shaq in action as he only went 3-6 from the field last time I simmed Celtics vs Heat.

I'm thinking I should take my sims off HOF as the CPU is too perfect on offense at times.

Rashidi said...

I also haven't decided who the next team will be. Might just be the Clippers because I can do them quickly (only 9 players that played last season, one of whom is Brian Cook).

I'm starting to get to teams that need finalized ratings and tendencies in addition to synergy. Those teams will take substantially longer to do.

It doesn't help that Silverlight (the program that Synergy runs on) has a tendency to crash if you leave the window inactive for 15 minutes.

Anonymous said...

as always, thanks rashidi for your rosters. ^^

man, now i'm really curious as to why 2k never even bothered to hire you to replace their insider.
you know if 2k won't hire you, you should apply as an analyst on TNT. ^^

Rashidi, Hi.

Just a question: Could you please enlite me on how do you approach the Offensive & Defensive Awareness ?

I have no issues at all with them, it is just that yours are so correct (at least to my perception) that I want to know how do you obtain them both ?

What stats do you use as base ?

Rashidi said...

I use Pts/Asts for OffAwr, which is what 2K uses.

Anonymous said...

Rashidi could you explain to me how SynergySports works? I'm interested in using it for College Hoops 2K8 ratings and was wondering if you could explain to me what it's all about. Thanks.
