The Real NBA 2K11

Real 2K Insider has uploaded an NBA 2K11 roster file to 2K Share for 360! Search for it by...

FILE NAME: The Real NBA 2K11
GAMERTAG: Real 2K Insider

A WORD FROM THE EDITOR

Hello 2K community! Welcome to the Real 2K Insider blog!

Last season I spent a great deal of time adjusting my renowned ratings to 2K's new scale. This summer I also signed up for Synergy Sports Technology (the service NBA Live/Elite was using for their tendency data), which helped me develop the best player tendencies the 2K community has ever seen.

With the grunt work out of the way, I'm not about to settle for the status quo. This season, the goal is to expand upon my work even further to bring you the most comprehensive virtual NBA experience to date.

2K Sports promised you this. However, with tendencies out of the box that destroy the realism they claim to provide, they have failed. Unless of course, Andrea Bargnani taking 30 shots per game is realistic to you (in which case you might be in the wrong place).

My current plan is to have all the player re-rated by the end of the month (actually, by the end of next week). That way any changes throughout the course of the season should be relatively minor. After that, I will begin re-working all the player tendencies - there are quite a few that are just ruining the current gameplay (I'm looking at you, hyped up "Touches" tendency).

Perhaps most importantly, after great demand I will (finally) be uploading these rosters to PS3! I do not have a time table yet, but there should definitely be a roster up by the beginning of the NBA season.

This is going to be an exciting season, and I have big things planned for not only the roster, but how the Real 2K Insider presents it's content as well.

idk y 2k just doesnt hire u lol. ur ratings r by far more accurate

Anonymous said...

What do you have against Gerald Henderson?

Rashidi said...

Gerald Henderson
9.7 PER
.453 TS% (.356 FG%, .211 3PT%)

He certainly isn't worthy of a higher rating than J.J. Redick (much less Dominic McGuire).

Anonymous said...

Do you really think Chris Bosh is the best PF in the NBA?

Anonymous said...

Hey man, great ratings. Is there a way to change Portland's home sock/shoe color? Right now it's black in the game but in real life it's white/white for the reg season. Not trying to complain, just going for accuracy.

Anonymous said...

2k wont hire him cos rashidi is bias. Must be crazy to rate gasol and bryant so low yet list that (wade)iverson wannabe 95 and sally bosh 86. he bias man..... u guys agree with him cos u guys are like him, lakers hater and heat fan!

Anonymous said...

James Johnson 67 is too high. Hes looked trrible in preseason and honestly shouldnt see the floor much. Noah at 73 is way too low. His overall should be equal to or higher than Deng. Noah is the Bulls 3rd best player behind Rose and Booz

Anonymous said...

Little surprised to see more offensive oriented guys like Bosh and STAT rated ahead of better all-around power forwards in Gasol and Garnett.

Obviously the overall rating doesn't necessarily make one player better than another in the game, but it's surprising nonetheless.

Otherwise, everything else looks fine.

Anonymous said...

Seriously, up Noah. He plays better then centers ahead of him and is healthier then some of the ones ahead of him (Yao, Perk, Oden and Bynum).

attention deficit said...

Wouldnt u guys rather the individual ratings be accurate or Rashidi give Kobe a 97 because you feel he deserves it? Which is stupid why wouldnt want your favorite player to play as he does in life. Some players are not higher than others because he is focusing on the individual ratings and not the overall rating itself. If you are focusing on the overall then you are not rating the player based on stats. You're Just rating the player for the hell of it. Try to bring your attention off the overall and focus on how the player performs during gameplay

Anonymous said...

Will it be possible to have these ratings and tendencies in a text format here on your blog??

Anonymous said...

I'm very disappointed with the Rockets ratings ... How can the Most Improved Player be with a lower rating than two unproven PG's like Steph Curry and Collison and a slouching old Baron Davis ... Evan Turner, who hasn't even played a normal game in the NBA is rated higher than Kevin Martin. For God's sake, even James Harden, who hasn't done anything for the past year is rated 77 ... an injured Blake Griffin is higher than Luis Scola ?! And Yao shouldn't even be in the 80's ! Yes, he may still have the touch but until a couple of months pass and he gets in shape, there is no way he is an 84 !!!

Bosh is above average in all areas - something only he and Amare can lay claim to.

Gasol grades the best in Post Defense (along w/ Garnett), which is desirable, but he also rates below average in 3 categories: Outside Scoring, Perimeter Defense, and Athleticsm. Considering Gasol is closer to being a center than anyone else on this list, I don't think you're going to find many people arguing with that.

Collison and Curry had excellent rookie years. All "Most Improved" means is that Brooks wasn't as good as Curry/Collison when he entered the league. Both of those players were All-Rookie First team in a deep class for a reason.

Kevin Martin had a down offensive year but hopefully will bounce back. I mean, it's not like his defense or rebounding is any good (that's a reference to all-around guys like Turner and Harden, btw).

Blake Griffin is a #1 pick with plenty of talent, and is tearing up summer league. Scola is a good scorer and rebounder, but couldn't block a shot or dunk if his life depended on it (something the athletic Griffin will have no trouble doing).

Also, Yao will remain high until he shows us he doesn't deserve the rating anymore (particularly his Inside Scoring, Post Defense, and Rebounding). We need some on-court production to judge him by. Fortunately, that day is coming soon.

Rashidi said...

Noah is at 77, not 73. I had him at 77 last year and was well-aware of his underratedness (though 2K also took note, and updated him to 77 in their update).

Moreover, I edited the entire Bulls team, including their training camp players who are grossly underrated.

I'm aware James Johnson is erratic, but he actually looks good in his highlights (mostly when he was starting for Deng). I don't put too much stock into preseason, and I think he'll be improved this season. The Bulls will lean on him for reserve minutes with Boozer out.

Rashidi said...

Johnson's biggest problem, btw, is his ugly turnover rate. That was probably due to too much free-wheeling, and I'm sure coach TT will aid in this area moreso than VDN.

Outstanding work Rashidi. I'm a PS3 owner who is stoked about the rosters coming. Please see what you can do about having them release the same time as Xbox.

Later I'd love to see you rate the legends based on whatever statistical information we have about them, and in direct comparison to the current guys.

BTW I hit you up on Twitter @bennyaziz

Happy that Kleiza got a realistic stat boost as 2K gave him a bum rating.

I'll add you on Twitter. Cheers.

I know you're still working on this but will you also be updating rating/tendencies for guys not on this list. I want to run an assoc. with the kings and noticed Cousins, Casspi and Greene were missing.

Kobe went 2-15 from the field last night, and people are complaining about a 92? With the shooting night he had, she should be a 62. Am I a Kobe hater? No, I was extremely happy they beat the annoying KG and the Celtics.

Your assessment of Bosh's rebounding, interior defense and b-ball IQ are certainly a little inflated.

Hey Rashidi. Good work on your ratings...I know that you get ask a million times...but when will you make this for the PC version? Is it really hard to make changes in the PC version than the consoles or is it just because somebody will download it and re-distribute them as their own work?

Bosh played "center" on a Toronto team that allowed more than 83 FG attempts per game (eight more per game than the league leader) and he grabbed 35% of his team's available defensive rebounds (which is near the league aggregate). While assets like his quickness help him get to rebounds others might not, he's certainly not physically stronger than a variety of others on the list. His per game #s are bound to dip with James snagging 8-9 boards every night, meaning his Toronto stats are likely a little inflated.

I'm not suggesting he should be significantly dropped. I just view him as more of B/B+ rebounder (by your rating scale).

Anonymous said...

Another thing with Bosh's rebounding, he played on a HORRENDOUS rebounding team last year in Toronto. Near the bottom in the league last year in total rebounds. Somebody has to get the rebounds on that team last year, and it was Bosh. He is certainly not a terrible rebounder, but this year on a great defensive team like Miami, his rebounds will go down. Take that to the bank.

...trust me, just stick with the percentages i brought up. The way you just did it doesn't account for minutes/possessions.

While assets like his quickness help him get to rebounds others might not, he's certainly not physically stronger than a variety of others on the list.

Neither was Dennis Rodman.

His per game #s are bound to dip with James snagging 8-9 boards every night, meaning his Toronto stats are likely a little inflated.

His rebounds are just as likely to stay the same because Joel Anthony is an even worse rebounder than Andrea Bargnani. Barg is actually a half-decent defensive rebounder, while Anthony's is putrid because he's always out of position looking for blocks. LeBron and Wade are going to be looking to run. Sure, he'll grab more boards than Turkoglu did, but that's merely going to be canceling out Anthony's lack of production.

Plus, you haven't even taken into consideration Bosh's competition. Gasol played mostly center this season which is the main reason his rebounds went up. He was the primary backup center, and the starter when Bynum was hurt. Garnett and Dirk are terrible offensive rebounders. Josh Smith and Amare are merely average. Amare has played on a terrible rebounding team for YEARS and he's NEVER grabbed rebounds like Bosh did this year. Love (A+) and Randolph (A) rated higher than Bosh, and based on the data, that's accurate.

How is Collison higher rated than Curry? Curry was the runner up to the ROY, an Olympian, had much less talent to play with along side him in Golden State as compared to New Orleans and Collison is rated higher because...? DUDE, that is SO weak they banned you at Operation Sports.
and yet that clown TOMBA is still talkin. doesn't he advertise tombasports.com?
so they banned you for starting a thread with the links?

well, he's safe. because he's just a talker i doubt he'll have a decent roster worth writing a thread about.

lastly, wtf is with ppl @ OS not realizing the sim sliders arent sim.
also the "sim" sliders bear alot of resemblance to PARED's 2k10 sliders. (maybe expains why he's trigger happy.)
throw in 2k10 and see the difference.

Great work on the initial set!

Quick question: when are you going to work on updating the contracts?

Anonymous said...

Darren Collison rated that high? washed up Baron Davis > defensively and offensively still decent Chauncey Billups?
Jason Kidd that washed up?
Mike Bibby = Carlos Arroyo?
What's with the George Hill hate?

SG
What's with the James Harden praise?

PF
Kevin Garnett still an 82? He is moving like Shaq now.

C
Dwight 92? :S
What is Okafor doing in front of Shaq, Noah? He sucked last year and he knows it, he even said it to the press.
Bargnani only 72?! He is beating players off the dribble to the rim tho is a 7 footer, unlimited range, has post moves, decent rebounder, shot blocker and post defender... very underrated. Cause he a Raptor?

Rest looks ok.

Rashidi said...

I update the contracts of every player I edit. So naturally they will be done when the ratings are done also.

Basically the only thing I'm not touching right now is the tendencies because I need to sit down and look at the changes from last year, as well as evaluate the new ones. That's much more time consuming than implementing my ratings which are already based off of last season.

christaftMVP said...

That's some shit that you were banned from OS. Sure you've already been invited, you should post on the NLSC (which is basically a 2K site now).

Interesting insight in this post: http://forums.nba-live.com/viewtopic.php?f=122&t=74916&p=1251512&hilit=+ratings#p1251512

Anonymous said...

Josh Smith and Amare are merely average. Amare has played on a terrible rebounding team for YEARS and he's NEVER grabbed rebounds like Bosh did this year.

Could not agree more! Good point about the competition as well. I appreciate you articulating your argument and not taking it personal. Although, I would probably have avoided comparing Bosh to Rodman.

Rashidi said...

Darren Collison rated that high?

Collison had an extremely good season, and people will notice now that he's not in Chris Paul's shadow.

Washed up Baron Davis > defensively and offensively still decent Chauncey Billups?

Baron is a much better defender than Billups at this stage of their careers.

Jason Kidd that washed up?

I didn't realize being the 16th best PG at the age of 37 constituted "washed up". Kidd is my favorite player in the league, fyi.

Mike Bibby = Carlos Arroyo?

What does Bibby bring besides outside shooting again? Arroyo is the better passer, ball handler, even defender.

What's with the George Hill hate?

You do realize Hill drops 4 points simply by switching his position from SG to PG, right?

What's with the James Harden praise?

Good defender and all-around player. You're looking too much at overall rating and not at specific attributes.

Kevin Garnett still an 82? He is moving like Shaq now.

Not even close.

What is Okafor doing in front of Shaq, Noah? He sucked last year and he knows it, he even said it to the press.

Okafor is a better defender and rebounder than Shaq. He is a better scorer than Noah.

Bargnani only 72?! He is beating players off the dribble to the rim tho is a 7 footer, unlimited range, has post moves, decent rebounder, shot blocker and post defender... very underrated. Cause he a Raptor?

As with the Hill example, Barg rates two points higher at PF, which is really his natural position anyway. 3pt and ball handling don't make much of a difference in center overall rating - rebounding and shot blocking do, and Bargs is only average at best in those areas.

Rashidi said...

Although, I would probably have avoided comparing Bosh to Rodman.

Not comparing them, merely noting strength =/= rebounding

Kirk Hinrich goes from a 74 to 79 when you switch him to SG. That's crazy.

thanks Rashidi for the answers. Not long ago Kidd was the best PG so near 20, that indeed is washed up. he never much relied to athletism. as a matter of fact he recently developed a 3pt shot. he is rebounding, still one of the best passers, and still starting for a team, which might be a contender, that is why its weird to see him there.

You would pick Okafor over Noah or Shaq? Okafor is one of the most blocked player in the nba and one of the reasons NO sucked last year, Collison is talented but over 80, from last year‘s same sucking NO? :S

I am 100% sure you have sophisticated methods, just tryna understand how much personal opinion is in these ratings

Rashidi said...

Kirk Hinrich goes from a 74 to 79 when you switch him to SG. That's crazy.

Delonte West jumps from 71 to 76 when you switch him to SG. Which is extremely annoying, btw, since I have Ray Allen at 75 and I can't get West any lower than 75.

PG overall rating formula was re-worked after a lot of complaints about players being too high, but it's obvious the other 4 positions need formula tweaks as well. Perimeter bigs are unfairly rated (Dirk and Bargs are the notable victims), while scoring PGs leap substantially in rating when their position is listed at SG.

Rashidi said...

What about the people u didn't edit (Rip Hamilton, Corey Maggette, Alonzo Gee, Reggie Williams)

Rip = 75 (-2)
Maggette = 78 (0)

Other two not edited yet.

James Harden better than O.J Mayo?

Harden's defense goes a long way.

O.J. Mayo
Inside Scoring: C+
Outside Scoring: A-

Perimeter Defense: B
Post Defense: D-
Ball Handling: B-
Rebounding: D-
Basketball IQ: B-
Athleticism: B+

James Harden
Inside Scoring: C-
Outside Scoring: B
Perimeter Defense: A-
Post Defense: C-

Ball Handling: B-
Rebounding: D
Basketball IQ: B+

Athleticism: B

Mayo is the better scorer, but as I've said before, there's more to the game than putting the ball in the hoop.

Mayo isn't even that good a scorer either, he plays 38 mpg and is only averaging 17 ppg (Ginobili for example averages that much in 10 fewer mpg). Harden is playing 23 mpg and averaging 10 ppg.

Pts per 36 mins
Mayo: 16.6
Harden: 15.6

Toss in that Harden has the better overall game....

They're both high lottery SGs, but one is getting fewer minutes because he plays on a playoff team and consequently isn't as known.

Rashidi said...

Classic team request:
Shaq/Kobe Lakers
2001 Sixers

I actually had an idea to create a Kobe version of 2K11, or rather, a "Lakers Rivals" roster which would include the following teams...

00 Pacers
01 Sixers
02 Nets
04 Pistons
00 Blazers
02 Kings
03 Spurs

Final three teams would be... 00 Lakers (Glen Rice), 04 Lakers (Malone/Payton), and 01-03 Lakers (Fox/Horry starting)

I have no idea if there's a create team limit this year (kinda lame since you can DL teams on 2K Share). If theres not, great, but if there is, one has to stick to these kind of themed rosters.

Rashidi said...

thanks Rashidi for the answers. Not long ago Kidd was the best PG so near 20, that indeed is washed up.

There are 30 starting PGs in the league, 70 with guaranteed contracts, and it's the deepest position in the league. Ranking 16th in a league where Mike Bibby ranks 43rd is not washed up. He's not a legitimate all-star anymore, but still a very solid option, much better than guys ranked in the 30s like Jarrett Jack, Jose Calderon, T.J. Ford...

as a matter of fact he recently developed a 3pt shot.

Yes, but the rest of his offensive game is non-existent. He cannot score off the dribble anymore and his individual defense is declining every season. Not to mention that declining athleticism has a direct effect on ratings.

As an aside, Kidd is another example of strength =/= rebounding.

Rashidi said...

You would pick Okafor over Noah or Shaq?

First of all,

Inside Scoring
Okafor: B-
Noah: C+
Shaq: B+

Outside Scoring:
Okafor: F
Noah: F
Shaq: F

Perimeter Defense
Okafor: C
Noah: C
Shaq: D-

Post Defense
Okafor: B
Noah: B+
Shaq: B-

Ball Handling
Okafor: D-
Noah: D
Shaq: D

Rebounding
Okafor: A
Noah: A+
Shaq: A-

Basketball IQ
Okafor: B-
Noah: B
Shaq: B+

Athleticism
Okafor: C+
Noah: C+
Shaq: D+

As I intimated before, Okafor is a better offensive player than Noah, and a better defensive player than Shaq. Both Okafor and Noah are significantly more athletic than Shaq at this stage of his career, and consequently are also better defenders (and to a lesser extent, also better rebounders).

Noah has a slight edge on Okafor beaten in a few categories, but Inside Scoring is highly weighted for center overall rating. If center overall were calculated differently Noah would likely have the higher rating, but since it's not, Okafor's Inside Scoring edge gives him a higher rating.

One of the reasons NO sucked last year,

The reason NO sucked last year is Chris Paul missed half the season. There is no other reason. Okafor was the team's only center and he played all 82 games. Without him, they are starting Darius Songaila or Aaron Gray.

Collison is talented but over 80, from last year‘s same sucking NO?

By that logic, Tyreke Evans is overrated too.

I am 100% sure you have sophisticated methods, just tryna understand how much personal opinion is in these ratings

Very little compared to other roster editors. 2K Overall ratings are not perfect, and I have justifications for each individual rating that makes up the overall rating you see before you.

Rashidi said...

This is also why Shaq maintains a higher overall rating (78) than Noah (77), fyi. He is even worse than Okafor at the categories Noah beats Okafor in but the Inside Scoring just trumps them all.

Shaq is a great player on a per minute basis but if I needed a starting center to play the bulk of the minutes we'd all take Noah every single time.

Is there any possibility that you could make a spreadsheet so us PC users can have your rosters?

LunaticWolf said...

Rashidi, all you would need to make a roster file for the PC is: the official 2k Roster file that you want to use, and, once it is released for 2k11, the 2k PC Roster editor (An external program designed to easily edit ratings, tendencies, contracts, and accessories). You wouldn't even need the actual game. The roster editor is a free download off the internet, and anyone who owns 2k for the PC could provide you with the official roster file you want.

It would be really easy to do. What do you say?

Rashidi said...

LunaticWolf,

That sounds like what I've been looking for. I don't think I'd have a problem doing that.

Great rosters as usual. Just a small suggestion. Kyle Korver looks to be playing SG for the Bulls with SF secondary postion.

I mean its something I've fixed myself in the last 2 times i've downloaded the roster so its not a huge deal, but I just thought you may wanna fix it up. Up to you

Cheers again the best roster maker in the game!

Rashidi said...

That's also because Ronnie Brewer is hurt. Korver should be his primary backup, and will probably play there more than SF pending Luol Deng's health, but for me it's going to depend on whether Kyle Weaver makes the team or not.

Rashidi said...

Good stuff....Why is some peoples Shooting of the dribble a 99?

There are only 3 players with 99 in this category.

Steve Nash
Chris Paul
Russell Westbrook

The answer is simple - the great majority of their offense comes off the dribble.

Wall's obviously your choice if you want an athletic PG, Turner's obviously your choice if you want an all-around SG.

You may want to take a look at Omer Asik's speed rating. He looks like he runs a lot faster than a 58.

Anonymous said...

Oops, one more thing.
I think Derrick Rose is a legit 99 speed. The dude needs 4 dribbles to get from his basket to the other and 1 after half court in real games.
I don't understand the drop in quickness either.

Rashidi said...

There are only three players with higher than 96 speed.

Nate Robinson, Leandro Barbosa, and Eric Gordon.

Speed ratings were assisted by draftexpress.com where players graded as follows:

3/4 COURT SPRINT
Rose: 3.05
Gordon: 3.01
Nate: 2.96

Rose is obviously very fast but he's not the absolute fastest player in the league.

October 13, 2010 4:40 PM

Rashidi said...

Likewise, Rose is not the quickest player in the league either. 93 is still very good.

99 Ellis
99 Wade
98 Brooks
98 Collison
97 Harris
96 Douglas
96 Rondo
96 Jennings
95 L.Williams
95 Holiday
95 Parker
95 R.Price
95 Wall

Rose is faster, stronger, and jumps higher than the majority of these guys. I'm pretty sure that will more than make up for a 2-6 point difference in lateral movement.

Anonymous said...

Just wondering when you think a roster with all the changes (touches, coach edits) for the ps3 will be out? I'm itching to start my association.

Will you be editing potential ratings? because I hear that's the biggest factor the AI goes by in trades...

...and do you think turning up all the coach profiles to 100 is a good quick fix for gameplay in the mean time?

Anonymous said...

Hm.. I see. Maybe 2K should make a 'Speed with ball' rating.

Rashidi said...

Hm.. I see. Maybe 2K should make a 'Speed with ball' rating.

They already have. A player's ball handle rating directly affects this.

This is why it's not a big deal to raise PF/C speed to the same levels as guards.

Rashidi said...

Will you be editing potential ratings? because I hear that's the biggest factor the AI goes by in trades...

I do edit potential, but I use the same scale as 2K. I haven't toyed with trade checker yet. To be honest, I haven't even started an association for test purposes yet. It's just ratings and an online game or two as a reward for the work I put in that day.

...and do you think turning up all the coach profiles to 100 is a good quick fix for gameplay in the mean time?

I haven't touched coach profiles yet, but it's the first thing I'm doing as soon as I finish the ratings.

Ohhh, now it makes sense. Was the ball handling a factor in speed in 2K10, or did it just become on this year?

Shelb said...

I tested the Touches Tendency for Rashidi earlier this week and lowering them to 0 may improve SOME playing issues, but make sure you have your roster back up saved. since I wasn't exactly super in depth with trying it out.

Yeah, I might try something like that again once I implement my other tendencies.

Rashidi said...

I downloaded and rated your rosters, they're great and offer realistic stats except for one category. I've simmed atleast 10 seasons and I cannot get Chris Paul and Deron Williams to average double digit assists, which is pretty much a given that they will be averaging atleast 10 dimes a piece next season. Is this a 2k flaw or what because I've tried fixing rotations, playbooks, tempos, runplays. The only player to average atleast 10 assists that I can consistently see is Jason Kidd, and sometimes Rondo will pop up in there. Any help would be appreciated.

This is partially a shot tendency issue, partially a 2K flaw. The reason Kidd is getting there is because he is rarely shooting, while guys like Paul/Williams/Nash are all looking for their own offense more during simulations.

I was curious about the ps3 rosters and the time frame. Are they still likely to be out by regular season. I don't have the 360, so i haven't been able to look at your rosters. I've been toying around with the living rosters but haven't found the right fit. The "speed with ball rating" sounds good. Also what do u have Rose's tendencies at. Maybe just shot tendency and pass out of drive. I was also curious about Noah's speed, quickness and passing ratings. Thanks

Rashidi I feel LeBron's should Speed should be a bit higher considering hes one fastest players in the entire NBA. His quickness is fine just boost his speed a little.

ACW1000 said...

Lebron is 6-foot-9 he's going to take longer strides than shorter players. I mean cover more ground. I feel his speed is fine where it is.

Shelb said...

LeBron has 93 speed. Not only is that the fastest for a player his size (off the top of my head I think he is only rivaled by Joey Graham, who is still 25 pounds lighter), but that's essentially top 20 speed in a league with lightning quick PGs. His speed is fine.

I don't have an XBox, so I haven't been able to enjoy your excellent work so far (and it really is excellent by the looks of the posts you've written). If you do opt to put out your roster for us PC users, we'd love you forever.

It's honestly mind-boggling that such a big company with so many employees working on the project can't even get things like roster ratings and sliders reasonably accurate, when you alone put out superior rosters all by your self. It's a huge pet peeve of mine (as well as many others, I'm sure) to start up Association mode and see completely ridiculous numbers.

Without quick-fixes of my own, both DeRozan and Scola consistently play fewer than 20 minutes a game (due to constant foul trouble). You do an immense service for the NBA 2K community!
