An update on both ends

Ok, so I promised an update on Wednesday. Big mistake on my part. I underestimated how much time it would take to re-edit everything as there is so much more to edit now. I should have anticipated needing to spend time on team rotations during the edit process.

I only DLed the file and began using it as the base because it had new 3pt ratings for everyone, and figured I'd just start making changes and that way I could pick up any other unseen changes the Insider might have snuck in.

Unfortunately, there were no other changes other than the 3pt ratings, and it would have been much faster for me to just copy down everyone's new 3pt rating and adjust the existing file I had (which was overwritten).

So that's my reason for the lack of update. I'm going to get it up Friday night. For serious.

The 2K Insider, as if to strike me when I'm weakest and most foolish, posted his own update Friday morning. I took the time to review the file for any changes, and here they are.

BIG CHANGES
Mickael Pietrus: Position changed from SF to SG.

That's it.

Oh, and he updated the rotations for approx half the teams. Adam Morrison is still starting over Sean May. Nuff said.

I seriously question whether he spends more than one day a week working on this stuff. Don't bother downloading this, and head right to 2K Share. You don't even have to DL my roster. Just pick one at random and you'll probably get more realistic rotations.

Consider having a link for every player or better yet copy and paste the "player file widgit" for the players you're discussing from http://www.nba.com/widgets/

and every player page on nba.com

You should use as much youtube and google video as you can as well, all this stuff is easy to insert in the body of a post using "copy" -ctrl- c, + -ctrl- V , "paste", also in the layout section of blogger they have more nba widgits, the more the merrier. Content is King, most everyone has a highspeed connection, it's easy to use, and if you're talking about the NBA, have a scoreboard, videos and photos in every post. It's super easy and your site will attract not only 2K fans but the larger universe of b'ball fans. You already have a community, slick out your site. It's so easy. I'm any number of fans can help you with your template, in the meantime use the copy paste technique and add links.

You the man. Yo someone help Rashidi with his template! How much pro bono work has he done for you?

If you search "add a gadget" on blogger there are 125 NBA Gadgets. If you have visuals down both the right and left sides, Team Cards, Video Banks, polls on player ratings to foster community, oh lord, you'd be making it. The key is layout. You can't go wrong with vids and pictures to illustrate your points. Not only in the layout, but in the body of every post.

Rashidi,

Ignore the jackasses. You are doing a great job. Some of us realize that you have more things to do in life than spend every waking second on the updated rosters. There are many many of us that are appreciative of your efforts. Looking forward to the new rosters.

Rashidi, I still don't understand why you have to make Rashard Lewis a PF when he is really just an SF playing out of position.

What is the difference between actually making him a PF and making him an SF (secondary=PF) and starting him as a PF in the Magic roster?

If he get's traded or signed by another team later on, he's probably gonna be used as SF, which is his natural position.

Am I missing something?

I agree Mark but when it comes down to it, I agree with 95-99% of what Rashidi changes and about half of the "real insider" does so the few things I disagree on like that I just take 30 sec and change.

Thanks commenter.. Don't get me wrong.. I am an avid supporter of Rashidi's "Real 2K Insider" Rosters (why would I be commenting in this blog if otherwise)... I in fact trust him 1000x more than the bot 2K hired to be the "2k Insider".

I was merely looking to get Rashidi's logic in doing that position change, because it didn't make any difference in the way you use that player after all, but at the same time you put him out of his natural position...

Check Rashidi's blog post here:
http://thereal2kinsider.blogspot.com/2008/10/sad-truth-about-rashard-lewis.html

He explains that the CPU messes up his rotations if he's at SF in Association mode.

Lordy said...

Thanks.. now that makes sense.. That was purely a move that's meant for the Association...

Sheesh.. I guess the CPU is still inadequate in identifying that if you don't have any real depth at PF and 2 of your best 3 players are SF's then it makes perfect sense to make the other SF start at PF...

We need to formulate a good franchise/coaching management logic for that...

I imagine that should be the same case with Clippers' Camby and Kaman, both C's, where Camby (or Kaman) is starting as a PF..

...or Marion and Beasley for the Heat

pragpro, thanks for the suggestions, I didn't know there were NBA gadgets I'll definitely look into it once 2.0 is out.

random hater, i tell it like it is. If you want to have a sub-par gaming experience, then by all means, stick with the official update instead of someone else's file. I'm not the only one pushing better content than the Insider.

Mark Lord, I actually know a Mark Lord in real life. Others already pointed out my reasoning, thought I'd just add that later on in an association you can change his position yourself back to SF. Even if he's not on your team you should be able to do it. Haven't checked if you can edit players not on your team but if not you should be able to turn "trade override" on and just make a quick swap.

Camby is interesting because he started off as a PF in the NBA, moved to C when Ewing got hurt, and I think he'll be a PF as his career winds down. The majority of his offense is mid-range jumpers now and I don't expect that his frail body will be able to take the pounding of bigger centers in his late 30s. He'll probably age like a better shot blocking/worse shooting P.J. Brown.

Lordy said...

That's why I don't like boxing players up as just a PG, SG, SF, PF, C...

In 2k I'd much rather enlist Camby as a F/C (same with Duncan or Bosh), Lewis as F (same with Odom or Beasley)..

Rashidi, about the 'random hater'- it's always hard to tell, but I think he might have only been a random teaser; it was certainly written in a playful tone. It also does make a valid point because you were hating on the 2k guy so much in the same message where you admit a small failure of your own.

Don't get me wrong, I love what you're doing, and you deserve every compliment you get. You're running circles around the 'official' guy in every way possible.

I'm only writing this message because I think I remember you saying you wanted people to tell you if they think you aren't right. Not everybody is going to phrase it like 'I don't understand why you did this'; some people are going to come straight out and tell you you're wrong. You might miss out on some good stuff if you tell them to get lost. After seeing a few people tell you to ignore this guy because he's an idiot, I figured I'd point out to you what's happening. Perhaps I misremembered, and you only ever wanted positive feedback. If so, excuse this message.:)

I don't think I quite meant "random" hater. I have one obsessed fan who has been stalking me on the blog and the 2K forums, I forget what his name was though. Obviously with my temporary banning, he misses me.

I don't mind people telling me they think I'm wrong. Telling me I made an error in judgement when I already admitted as much is at best, redundant.

I don't really get worked up over those type of responses anyway; if it seems like I am, it's probably due to my amateur writing and a lack of sleep.

You really see Camby as a PF because of the banging from bigger centers? Honestly what centers are there in the league left who have a legit physical post game AND are 7 ft + legitimately big.

Howard
Shaq (for like 10 min a game)
Yao (for about 50-60 games)
Oden potentially if healthy/develops
Bynum if staying healthy
Duncan (call him a pf all you want, he plays and is as big as a center, and he is bigger/taller than anyone who plays "center" next to him.

Could say his own teammate Kaman slightly, Al Jefferson plays center but isn't all that physical and he's much more of a pf in my eyes.

So six out of 30 guys?

Rashidi said...

Camby doesn't have the offensive game of a center though. He rarely posts up now and that's not going to change as he gets older. Defensively he obviously gets lots of shot blocks but he cheats for a lot of them and his post defense is only average.

Let's just say he is better suited to guarding LaMarcus Aldridge or Pau Gasol than Greg Oden or Andrew Bynum.

Rashidi,

Did you release version 1.7? It has been uploaded on the 2K Share servers. Is someone else taking your Real 2K Insider name? Curious to know, because I only want to use your official rosters. Thanks for all the hard work!

Rashidi said...

Huh, I didn't see that. I guess it was bound to happen eventually. I rated the file a 1, anyone else who wants to join in feel free.
